lower more with irs??

hey guys, i know it would add alot of camber, but i was curious if you can get any lower in the rear using irs over a solid axle? my last mustang i lowered about 3in in the rear with no issues, but i was scared that the pumpkin and driveshaft would start hitting if i went any lower. and no i do not want to bag the car.. i want to "drag frame" static!

You can't really go any lower then you would with a SRA. The only difference is that the IRS has a softer ride compared to the SRA when they are "slammed"...if you really want to go lower then 3" then you will have to bag your car.

I'd imagine that you could lower it more than SRA. Part of that being that the differential does not move when you lower an IRS equipped car, so you are not going to have rubbing issues where drive shaft starts to rub on parking brake stuff. What's more is that pinion angle remains the same, so you also end up with less vibration.

But you have to take into consideration the upper control arms hitting the frame rail. On my car they are roughly 1.5" away from the frame and the car is only lowered 1.5" from stock in the rear.

thats the kind of stuff i was starting to worry about.. because when i lowered it my u joint died pretty quick.. mostly because it was 14 years old lol! but my friend is a fabricator, and we were going to make rear coilovers with some really short shocks.. i was just wondering how much lower i could get before the sra started hitting stuff.. thats why i was making a backup irs plan...
