At least... I think they're members...

I asked about this once before I think, but for a different selection of cars shown in the banner at top. I was just wondering if anyone knew what brand and size these Cobra R hoods are. Cervini's? HO Fibertrends? 1 1/2 inch? 2 1/2 inch? 3 1/2 inch? I'm assuming 1 1/2 or 2 1/2, but I can't tell.

Thanks for any input.

The yellow looks to be a 3 1/2 and the red appears to be 2 1/2

I'm basing this off of what mine looks like (3 1/2)

I did some digging around with the search function and it appears that hellion94's may be a 3" abcexclusive and matt94gt's may be a stock Cobra R 1 1/2". Odd... they look about the same height in those photos. I haven't heard great things about abcexclusive's fit so i'm a bit scared off by them though.

I'm asking because I desperately need to paint my once laser red/now hot pink 96GT and I want to grab a hood before I do. The height of the hoods in the OP look perfect to me, but its hard to tell what's what. I've seen some 3" hoods that look obnoxiously high and then I've seen some that don't look that bad at all. At this point I'm leaning towards a 2 1/2" Fibertrend as a compromise, but I'm wondering if I'll be fine with the stock 1 1/2.

Beautiful hood. Where did you get yours?

You are correct. Mine was an ABC Exclusive 3" and it really wasn't too bad fitment wise. It was heavy though.

Okay. Well it looks/looked wonderful. Typically with bad fits you see like where the hood and the corner lights are off, but yours looks fine. You get rid of it?

also a lot depends on the company, a lot of them label them as different sizes even though they look the same.

Yeah. That drives me nuts because I'm still leaning towards the H.O. Fibertrends 2 1/2 which appears to be the same height as hellion94's 3" abcexclusive, and then I wonder if I should just settle for the (what appears to be) slightly lower and more conservative Cervini's or Fibertrend's standard Cobra R (which Fibertrend bills as a 1 1/2). And then I reconsider the cheaper abcexclusive. decisions. decisions.

The H.O. Fibertrends 1.5" is a normal Cobra R hood. So I would assume their 2.5 is equivalent to everyone else's 3" hood.

The hood was still on the car when I sold it.

I think thorco3 has a HO Fibertrends hood and wasn't too happy with the fitment if I remember correctly, Might want to ask him or do some more digging.

Oh okay. that makes sense and helps narrow down the playing field a little. Thanks.

huh. i thought I had read that HO Fibertrends was responsible for designing the Cobra R hood and so therefore the fitment would be better than others. I have time to do more digging though. The paint probably won't go on for a few months yet, I'm just planning ahead.

They did do the orginal hood and I ALMOST want to say that even on the old Cobra Rs the fitment wasn't amazing. It was intended to be a race car. Don't hold me to this, but just a sort of heads up to be on the look out. I could be way way off though.

When I got mine, the alignment was off by about 3/4". The shop that painted and mounted it, had to re-fabricate the hood hinges so the hood would line up correctly. Besides that, the quality seems to be nice.

Wow. that's weird. Well the guy who will be doing my paint is also my mom's cousin and I hear he does pretty good body work too. I might just take the gamble and get the much cheaper abcexclusive hood after all and save some money. Now I know what sizes to look at though, so this has been really helpful.

Yeah if my memory serves the HO Fibertrends 1.5" hood is the same size as Cervinis 3.5" hood. For the most part you can tell by looking at them if you know what size you want.

At any rate i have heard that HO Fibertrends was held to a tighter build quality tolerance when making the hoods for Ford, and that their other aftermarket hoods may not fit as well as the original Ford hoods did. Again that's just what I've heard but I'm happy with my R take off for the most part, spaces on the sides might be a lil more than ideal though.
