I just got up under the car last night to throw on the Borla Stingers and i noticed some gear oil. Went farther up and saw what appears to be the pinion washer has gone bad and puked Gear oil everywhere. A guy locally says he can install a gear and rebuild the stock traction lock for 300 bucks. What i have been looking at is the Ford Rebuild kit and Gear install kits.

The
M-4210-C
M-4700-B
and a 3.73 gear. I bought the gear off 97mustanggt.

I am now thinking i should just buy a whole rebuild kit like from LMR that has everything so it for sure doesn't whine.

What do you guys think.

I could go all out and get a Detroit locker and 31 spline axles but my car is a street car i will rarely ever get to the drag strip so i think i should be just fine with the stock Traction Lock rebuilt.

Give me some opinions

Well you could just do the Pinion seal yourself, and that would be the cheapest option.. Does the guy who quoted you $300 have experience in
gear installs? And does he also have experience in rebuilding traction-loc diffs? If he is a reputable guy to go to, then having the trac-loc
rebuilt at the same time of the gear install would be an ideal setup. Are you not wanting to use the used gears you already have (3.73) if you
do end up rebuilding?

I am afraid running the Used gears might cause a gear whine if it is not setup as they were when they were run. Which will cause Gear Whine. The guy is very very well known around and does a lot of Installs around here and is very reasonable on the price. Considering all the shops want at least 300 for just a gear install. I was wanting to do the Traction lock at the same time b/c it would make sense and to not have to pull it out later and redo it. I was going to do a Gear install anyway until i got up underneath and saw this. So now i figure the best thing would be to get it all done at once since it has to come out anyways. And just spend the extra 120 bucks for the traction lock to be rebuilt. That would be the 70 dollar Ford Traction lock rebuild kit and his 50 dollar labor charge.

Your talking general composite material vs. carbon fiber. The carbon fiber will last longer, and grab harder- thus more "locking" action off the line. No chirping while taking sharp turns. Also, the 4700-C kit comes with a much stiffer spring which helps much more. Only thing that sucks about the kit, is this GD spring. Its a B!tch to install.

If you want to keep it cheap, go with the 4700-B. Its OE stuff, and will be perfectly fine for street use.
If you want an upgrade, get the 4700-C. Its just the icing on the cake.

Keep it simple, effective, and cheap.

Use your 3:73's.
M-4210-C Install kit
4700-C Clutch pack kit
Royal purple/ Mobil 1 fluid.
Unless your running GOBS of torque, thats all you need. Thats the setup on my Road race car and the poor diff. see's extremely high temp's and is going 60-150 mph over and over throughout the weekend.

I run this also in my street car, and as you can see, it spins both tires nicely LOL :)

I am going to get that and Valvoline Full Synthetic 75w140. That should make for a Nice rear end. Then the clutch gets ordered along with a new Lightweight Flywheel so when i do my motor swap this summer it will be ready to go in.

Hell if you were closer I'd sell you a brand new set of Ford Racing 3.73 gears, New in Box for $100. Or you could buy them and pay for shipping..
