Hey I was just wondering how much you guys thought it would cost to get only your bumper and hood painted (the same color). My hood has these spots on it and they are really annoying me, :rant2:

as far as just painting the hood and bumper, I would say around $800 give or take about $100 because they'll need to blend your fenders to match the hood and bumper.

I'm gonna be in the same boat shortly. Have a 1998 OEM Cobra bumper(actually says "COBRA" woot!) that needs paint and I'm getting a 96-98 Cobra hood as well. I hate how ford dicked Cobra owners over in 94/95 with the GT body parts...

So $800 just for the hood and bumper??? Wow that's kinda steep...

if you dont want it to look like crap and not really match then you could get away with spending a little less, but why do it half assed?

I paid $300 for my hood top and bottom. I think it's about 2-300 per body panel, but that doesn't count blending and such.

I have thought about just doing the whole car but i dont really need it, i heard it is like ~3000 for that if it is the same color. Mich how much more was it for the whole thing than just the bumper and hood?

painting the hood and bumper with the unique (most likely expensive) paint should cost ~$700, and to do the whole car would be somewhere in the ballpark of $3500 depending on the quality your looking for

paint it yourself

or you could atleast prep it yourself. that would save a lot of body shop time. then just have someone spray it. then you could do the wet-sanding and buffing.

that would save you big bucks

What did you need to prep the car etc etc to do it yourself, that under 75 dollar part just sparked my interest lol

That price is obviously if you have an in with someone who will do it for free as long as you just buy the paint. I'm thinking of hanging a bunch of plastic in my dad's garage and setting up a ghetto floor fan/filter to ventilate it and then just have him spray it for some beer.

800 is about right if you have a pro do it. Yesterday I went to talk with the guy who is gonna do my hood and front bumper on the GT and re-spray the Cobra completely. And thats about where he thought it would total.

i did a 300 grit wetsand to start then went to 600 then finished with an 800....
same with the hood..the 800 isn't really needed but it helps...
then went and got some PPG black concept paint kit and followed the instructions...
i had a ton of practice on my rear bumper so i have the whole painting thing about down :)

That looks very nice. The more I look at these prices the more I think I should just have my old man help me do it on a weekend with the compressor and his gun...

How hard is it to strip a urethane bumper and paint it?

not bad....
i just left mine on :dunno:
if you take it off its a pain in the rear to keep it from cracking (the paint)
if you call PPG you can get a quote for the 'kit' which has the hardener and all the other stuff in it :thumb:
if you can do it for 100 bucks then go for it...we get a good deal so im not sure what full retail is

Well the bumper I want to put on the car is already off. Its a 1998 OEM cobra bumper that's been sitting in my backyard for about a year now waiting for me to get around to painting it and putting it on. Do you have a good link for PPG or should I just google it?
