Powdercoated a few things this weekend...

Now that my elbow is mostly healed up and the stitches are out, I finally got to coating a few overdue projects this weekend.

Various parts for my friend's '94, another friend's 1984 Mercury Capri RS Turbo, and my notch. Colors are matte black, silver metallic, and Tiger Drylac Xtreme Chrome.

I also did my coil bracket and hood latch in matte black, but they're already back on the car.

Cam Pulleys for the Capri RS - Xtreme Chrome base with Candy Red Translucent top coat. There was some outgassing, and it's a little tricky to get this just right, but it's not bad for my first try.

The big rainfall last weekend soaked my glass media despite my best efforts to cover everything in tarps, and I don't have money to buy anymore just yet - so I think the rest will be on hold for a while.

Just take 'em to a local powdercoater - it's not that expensive.

I have two sets of fox valve covers left. I've got candy red, candy blue, and candy orange powder that I want to try out. I think I might try one of those on a set of valve covers. In fact, I might do a complete set of accessory brackets, valve covers, and an intake manifold in candy blue to see how it turns out. I don't have a car to put it on, so I'll probably give them to my friend for his '79 Capri.

HAHA i can see someone getting carried away and trying to do there WHOLE car not just parts but the WHOLE car. I think i would love to learn how to Powder Coat things when i get into a stable place where i will be staying.

I knew a guy in HS that coated his WHOLE truck with bedliner. Inside, outside, valve covers, air cleaner, wheels, etc. kinda cool though, and it would never rust.

I've sold a small handful of stuff, but it's not really worth it. I am a perfectionist and it takes me a REALLY long time to do stuff so the cost of my time outweighs the price of the parts sold. I have a good job to pay the bills - this is just something I do for fun. I coat stuff for my friends for free all the time. I did sets of valve covers for both Jeff (Dalamar) and Matt.

It's been done. The offroaders are a big fan of it. Entire jeeps, broncos, etc...

Yep. I've sold a few sets. Again, TONS of work and not really worth the money I get for them. Just fun to do.


I blasted a ton more crap today, including a complete 94-95 5.0 accessory drive setup with EVERYTHING. I may just sell that on eBay.

How hard is it to Powder Coat things ???

I agree with you on doing it right. Thats one reason why i wont skimp on the parts i need i would rather save the extra money and wait and get the right thing then to cheap out and get something cheaper.

I think I sold two sets in gunmetal gray, made one for myself, sent a silver metallic set to Matt, and I have one set in chrome leftover. I have two more "unprepped" sets in the garage, plus one old set for the four-eye cars.

It's not hard, but it takes the right equipment. Powdercoating itself is pretty easy, but prep is time consuming and the equipment can be a bit expensive.
