Don't use the knock sensors, have them turned off in the tune. Also, make sure you have good 02's in the car before you get it tuned. As for the imrc's just get elims and have them turned off when you get it tuned as well. Hope this helps out.

thanks man.

Today we're finishing the imrc delete install. got some plates and tore it down last night. so that will def be deleted when tuned. I'm about to go in this afternoon and throw it all back in. should get it running right.
Any reason you say delete knock sensors? and do you know if they will work right if not deleted in the tune? and the car has good o2 sensors in it.
Pics of delete install later on and hopefully a vid of it running good and some driving vids.

:headbang:

thanks man.

anyone know on the imrc delete if you have to leave the box for the plug to plug back into?

would it throw a code or make the car not run right? Obviously it will get tuned out here soon in the future, but for now, just wondering.

well its all back together.

98 harness out of a cobra
98 cobra computer..

but it runs rough and choppy. revs up like its running toooo much fuel. and it smells a lot richer than it did when the GT computer was in. Just need a tune?

so we go to put the Gt computer back in the car and it flashed the theft light and blinks. I noticed that it blinks 3 times, then pauses. after the pause it blinks twice then restarts that cycle. I tried the other key to the car and it started blinking real fast.

any ideas..?

Edit: The maf sensor was bad..... hahaha. it runs good now.

She is running good now. fun to drive. idles high after driving it some and when coming to red lights and stop signs it wants to fluctuate to low and high idle.

overall running great though.

Good work. I imagine its quite a fun ride. Projects like this make me wish I had a 4v motor waiting to go in... Keep us updated!

You have to plug the holes between cylinders tho. That's probably where your idle issues are coming from. If you did plug up the holes between the cylinders where you removed the rod, then you are good to go. If not, then you are going to have issues possibly. I have a friend of mine remove the rod and he welds the holes shut, then mills them flat, they work really well. We do this a lot on the 3V engines.

of course. the holes are filled in where the rods used to go.

and thanks 96redgt. it is already fun to drive. I've drove it so many times when it was running rough and just not right. it seems almost weird to drive it now and be able to drive it all the way up to 6th gear.

Get it tuned, slap a KB on it, and enjoy! You going to run it at the track any?

It's because those knock sensors don't work worth a crap. They detect engine movement and vibration and think it is knocking retard the timing. If you turn them off and keep a sensible tune and run good gas, there is absolutely no reason for them. Also, you can disconnect the box for the IMRC's and it won't be necessary once they are turned off in the tune. Also, since you have a stock computer and no tune and don't have the IMRC's, the computer doesn't put all the timing into the car unless it sees the IMRC's fully open. It has two seperate tables for timing, one for engine, one for IMRC and they are added together. It takes a decent tuner to build the three main tables to work well, and eliminate the IMRC table after they are turned off.
I hope this helps and your car is very cool. Def one that will surprise a lot of people. Glad you got your mass air fixed. Idle issues can be addressed in the tune as long as you are certain there are no vacuum leaks. They will give that same symptom.

i wish i could just ship my car to you. hahaa

i know very little about tuning, and i only know a couple places in the area around here. After hearing you talk about the timing and tuning things, it makes me kinda iffy to just take it to some guy that thinks he knows about tuning cars.

Well, how far are you from the atlanta area? There are quite a few guys in that area that know these cars.
