Rear Coil Overs... I has them!

And this is BTW, how you run MM rear coil over kit on the street. You purchase a Hypercoil helper spring, and a spring spacer from Eibach.

As you can see at full droop shock length is longer than the spring that came with the kit. What the helper does, is keeping the spring in place, by putting a very slight tension on it. When the car is at normal ride height the helper is fully collapsed, and has no effect on how the car handles. Backing out of my very steep driveway, I've had no problems with spring coming loose at all

While I was there I also bumped the front spring rate as well, so the new rates are 350 front and 250 rear. One thing I can tell immediately, is how much smoother the car rides now, even though that the conventionally located MM track springs (415-515 progressive which turns to 188-233 coilover rate) is technically softer than the new 250 coil over spring. Hoping to see some improvements at the track this weekend.

Going as stiff as stock Koni SA will allow me.

ReplicaR, weren't you running torque springs(if that's what they're called) before or was that someone else?

Yeah, I ran those. Those are the 415-515 lbs progressives.

What made you decide to switch over to coil-overs? I'm assuming the daily driveability? I'm really interested in building a car similar to yours once I get a coupe.

Re: ReplicaR's daily driven road race Mustang build

Well here is the thing. MM recomend a 100 lbs split when the torque arm is installed. The stiffest spring that I could get that was conventionally mounted (on the control arm), was their track torque arm spring. The spring is rated at 415 to 515 lbs to make it more comfortable on the street. When you convert that to coil-over rates, you end up with a 188 to 233 lbs spring, which means that of you pair it with a linear front springs and you end up with car that could either understeer or oversteer at any iven moment depending on how compressed your suspension is. Do not want for track handling.

I've also been told the whole time that you can't run MM rear coil overs because at full droop the springs become unseated, and its unsafe. Lately I've looked at the kits which were made by eibach, and realized that you could just put together a helper sprin set which will keep the springs in place. MM said that it couldn't be done, but there it is.

The main advantage to coilover kit is the ability to pick and choose your spring rates down to 25 lbs. This will allow you to finetune the suspention, right down to your likings.

The spring spacer is Eibach part # Spacer 225
The helper spring is HyperCoil part # HELPERSPRG-2.25

IM kinda diggin how those helper springs work... my Griggs rear coilovers pop on the street sometimes, and I have to re-seat the springs. annoying! IM definitely gonna order those... awesome!

Thanks Dymitry, I have the MM coilovers with hypercoils,
which part is the helper?

Re: ReplicaR's daily driven road race Mustang build

right, so is that the standard coilover spring, or something special?

It's a coil over helper spring designed to be used with 2.25 ID coil over springs.

Well that's sorda clear. I always disliked how the rear springs come unseated when you decompress them fully.
You have way more fun in your car then the average mustang owner. Props 2ya
