Just like a stock strut. Our cars run a "Modified MacPherson Strut", which is basically a macpherson strut with no spring perch.

The coilovers will mount in similar fashion to the way they were in your impreza, probe... etc etc etc

I have always thought the coilovers were installed in addition to the current struts. Otherwise why would they sell a kit for specific struts if you weren't even using the struts to start with? The answer I got earlier about keeping my current struts vs switching to bilsteins really threw me off, cause it sounded to me like I had to use one or the other...

What I meant by "current strut" was that you have tokico's. I assumed they were installed, if not I apologize.

Thanks Madstang, I guess I never put 2 and 2 together that the coilover kit actually installed on the current strut, and when Adder said I would just throw my struts out it made me think the kid I would buy would be replacing it, instead of being in addition to it. Thanks for clarifying.


Is the coilover kit easy to install on the strut? Anything special required? I haven't read the install on the MM website yet.

No problem, coilover just means the coil goes over the strut or shock. This is what this thread is for, taking the guess work out of everything.

Nothing special required, just read the details in the instructions throughly. There are a lot of little o-rings, and parts that can be lost or misused if the instructions arent followed to the T.

Hello MadStang! Please help me!) I have stock suspension on my 96 Mustang GT, and I want install Coil-Over package of MMS. But I don`t understand, if I will buying CO package can I choose springs? And what springs i need? I want lowered my stang (previous your post you recommended 10 inches snrings, if i correctly understand, it is what I need. But I don`t know what spring rates I need. I daily driver, sometimes I go out on track-days and my ride style be called like "street drive". Must take into account the road in some places in russia like a crap)

So between the coilover kit, k member and a arms, is it necessary that I buy them all from maximum motorsports? I want quality stuff but but I don't want to spend extra money on MM stuff if it's not really necessary cause I mean MM stuff is pricy. seems to me the coil over kit is the most important part...

The only mustang kit I trust to run on both street and track is maximum motorsports. Most aftermarket k members, a-arms, etc are not meant to handle the abuse of day to day driving. Griggs Racing specifically told me do not run our k-member on the street (on my old 98). Sure it's a little extra money but it's also the extra insurance that you won't have a totaled car from part failure.

Hmm no kidding. So the parts can't handle street driving but they can handle abuse on a track? Are they hot made to handle normal bumps in the road or what?

No they aren't. Biggest testament to that is UPR. My friends fox was running UPR LCA's they literally cracked... Lemme see if I can find a picture of them. But this mainly why I'll never run a UPR part on my car. Sure they have a lifetime warranty, but your life may be cut short if some of these parts fail....
