I've been looking at getting a bike lately and my question to you guys is do you still enjoy the Mustang as much with the bike, or do you find yourself on the bike a lot more now and the Mustang is kinda like eh whatever. That's my main concern I think.

Depends on the bike and your situation.

If you've never had one before you'd prolly put the car to bed for a little bit until the initial thrill of owning a bike wears off. Can't forget, also depends on how much of a gas guzzler your car is too lol.

as a preface, my car isn't as fast as yours.

I still drive my car enthusiastically and still plan to finish it, but I definitely realized that it would never be near as fast as my bike for way more money. I think buying a motorcycle saved me thousands! My car is a vert, so that may come into play to, but it really just depends on how nice it is outside and what I plan on doing. If I want to relax and just cruise I'll take the vert. If I want to play I'm going to get on the bike. But like tally said, I have a sportbike. If you get a cruiser your situation will most likely be different. So yes I do enjoy it as much, but it certainly doesn't get driven as much. My bike and it are alternating DD's in the nice weather.

obviously the two would be on different levels as far as performance goes. I've always been interested in the sport bikes rather than a cruiser, I'm looking at something like an older CBR 600RR. it definitely seems like it would be radically different than the Mustang though, kinda why I'm interested.

you can get into them for so cheap there's no reason not to try it out. the brand won't matter if it's one of the jap four, but I'd make sure to get one that's fuel injected.

Make sure it is definitely fuel injected!! Four carbs to debug and tune is a nightmare.

When I had my bike and Mustang, there was nothing better than walking into the garage on a nice sunny day, and deciding which one to take.

Admittedly I chose the bike more often than not.

I wanted a bike for economical purposes. I have 2 cars, My SN95 and a DD BMW. My commute everyday is between 70 and 90 miles. I got the bike to help save on gas, but i ended up enjoying riding alot and not i ride very often. Nothing replaces the stang, because i can drive faster and harder in the stang. Plus, the bike cant haul stuff. So if i wanna take my girl to dinner or go do alot of shopping, the stang is needed.

I like using the bike to run to the store for little things, or avoiding traffic going to work. Plus Lane splitting in CA is 100% legal :headbang:

that's not bad logic except your BMW can haul stuff and take your girl to dinner, and I don't see how you can drive faster in the Stang than the R6...

The BMW isnt as fun to drive than the mustang. The mustang can alot of stuff, and is faster than the BMW. The BMW is great for long trips because its more comfy, but if i am going anywhere that is a fun drive (like a 300 miles drive up the west coast) then i will take the stang.

In traffic the R6 is much faster, thats a give in.... BUT on a canyon road where i can drive flat out, I am much faster in the stang, Actually I can easily chase down almost any street bike and they will have a hard time keeping up in a SoCal canyons. The IRS and suspension set up on my car is very good for back roads, and will 4 wheels i can turn harder and brake harder as well.

well you must have a bunch of amateur bike riders out there cause most of the time a street/sport bike would wreck a sports car in pretty much every category. My guess is the riders aren't pushing their bikes anywhere near their limit.

What tires are you running on the R6? I imagine a lot of it has to do with experience and confidence but good tires, good knowledge of the road, and good technique on the bike should leave the car on pretty much any street condition.

I have run on some really hard roads, and I can outrun pretty much any rider besides a pro on a canyon road.

Its just the physics of things. A car has 4 wheels and MUCH more grip. That means it can turn harder and brake harder.

I am running fresh Dunlop Q3s on my bike. My driving experience in a car is much higher than a bike, but put a ferrari and a ducati on a track and the ferrari will win. There is videos of this all over youtube. The bike will pull on the straight but the car will take over in the turns.

A track and the road are two very different places and your car and a Ferrari are also two very different animals. Fastest lap time on a bike on the Isle of Mann TT course is a little over 17m, I think a Subaru just set the fastest car lap at like 19m and some change. Don't get me wrong, a car would be faster in a lot of situations (gravel, rain, unfamiliar places, with a friend, on a technical track, with groceries, etc), but with a decent condition street, a decent rider, and a decent bike, there should be no problem keeping pace/surpassing your car.

Not many cars are gonna hang with me in a curve period. I have 58,000 miles on my 04 GSXR1000 and a lil over 12K on my 09 Kawai ZX-10R. Ive tore up shoes taking curves to fast not even realizing it. Supercars start gaining on motorcycles near the 140 mph mark. Areodynamics of a motorcycle are horrible compared to the supercars. The drag coefficient makes all the difference in the world. As for tight curvy tracks or roads that have short straight a ways, the 600 sportbikes will actually be faster than the bigger liter bikes. They weigh less and just are that much more nimble, allowing quicker transitions. Throw in 1 long straight strectch, and the advantage in the corner speeds of a 600 are gonna be cobbled up quickly by a liter bike. Look up Metzler tires for sportbikes. You will see they have an elephant on the sides of them. If a person rides hard enough, his head will be scrubbed from the pavement. That pushing in the curves.
The Metzler Racetecs and the Bridgestone BT-16s are the only tires I feel comfortable pushing hard on.

a car that can beat a comparable bike would be an ariel atom, a formula car, or something else with lots of downforce or little weight. I've only been riding a little over a year and a half and I can take my gixxer just as fast as my mustang (w/ irs) in most places, and it will absolutely dust any car on the road on a short strait. you chasing down guys on canyon roads can be explained by a few things, they're not trying as hard, they're inexperienced, or they just know their limits. pushing a car on a canyon road is way different than pushing you're bike. doesn't make the car faster.
