my distributor is making a squeaking noise at idle, i can put pressure on it and pull the cap back towards the front of the car and it stops, but the rotor isnt rubbing the cap anywhere
i sprayed WD-40 into the distributor and around the rotor, but it didnt help
any ideas on what it could be? :dunno:

Probably the bushings are a bit worn and there is play in the distributor shaft.

Bringing back the post from the dead. How do I check the bushings, and where are they located. I recently have replaced the pick-up coil, and when I was installing it all back together, I've noticed that the shaft is kinda tough to turn. I did not see anything about bushings in your rebuild thread, Paul, so I did not look at anything else other than removing the coil.

you need to remove the distributor, remove the gear, then remove the shaft. you should use a press to do this.

Its cheap to buy a remainufactured dizzy at the zone I have been running mine for about 3 years now. I think is was about around a hundred bucks just drop it in throw a timing light on it and lock it down and forget it

Damn it, it just chaps my ass knowing that I just replaced the dizzy in a stock one, and now I have to replace the whole thing all over again.

I'll probably just remove dizzy, and sell it on Corral. Someone will buy it. I don't think it has more than 5k miles on it and it's a MotorCraft part, so someone who's anal like me will buy it.
