As far as the rear lower and upper control arms go, I was watching powerblock this weekend and or last, and on he Musclecar show they boxed the stock control arms.

If the weakness in the stock upper and lower control arms is because they are stamped, how much stronger would they be if I took my welder and boxed them? I have plenty of scrap steel around so that wouldn't be a problem and I have plenty of wire gas for the mig welder.

Opinions?

If you are cheap, then yes that is a real good way to improve them from flexing so much, but the rubber bushings are still not helping at all.

I would work, but you would still have sheetmetal in the U part. The boxed ones have thicker metal all around. Now if you have good welding skills, I don't see why you couldn't just buy some rectangle stock and tube stock and make your own anyway.

Hmmm... You have a point there. My welds aren't bad but it wouldn't take me much practice to get back to where I used to be.

the bushing is more of a downfall than the boxed.

Couldn't you just replace the rubber bushing with an aftermarket bushing?
yeah, but for the average person, its much easier to just buy a new control arm then it is to weld, and press bushings.

Well i just bought a full bushing kit so i'm about to install them lol, Scar... i'll need a press????? you sure????

Anyway, i heard that you want to keep the factory ones on top or the suspention will bind up real bad and the only thing it will be good for is the strait line.... plus that heavy duty stuff rips the shit out of torqu boxes lol.

most bushings need to be pressed in, I think there is a tool you can rent to press them in also ??? I used to always burn out the old bushings, and use a bench press to re instal them.

with a big lever on it? If so, then yes it's a bench press. Also, I haven't noticed any binding with my upper urethane joint's. I do grease them all regularly though.
