hey guys i told yall about how something squeeks when i push in the clutch when i shift. somebody mentioned a bad throw out bearing and a few guys agreed with him. i looked into it and its not an expensive product but i heard you have to take out the transmission to swap it. is this true? any way i could just remedy this without having to take out the tranny?

Re: throw out bearing

If it is the throwout bearing, you do have to pull the trans, no way around it. Do not use an aftermarket bearing either useually the best ones for your application will be the factory replacement.

Is this a weekend backyard job? Or should I take it to the shop?

You can do it yourself but depending on your mechanical skill and abilities it may be better to have a Dealer/Performance shop do it.

Re: throw out bearing

You cand o the job yourself or take it to the dealer, either way I suggest using the Ford TOB.

As far as holding the clutch in at a stop light, it doesnt really make a difference as long as you dont roll and your not holding the car with slipping the clutch, it wont make a big differece

Re: throw out bearing

You don't have to, but it is less wear on the clutch if you do. Also, if you are going to replace the throwout bearing it would probably be a good idea to replace the clutch since you are there.

Re: throw out bearing

You can get an aftermarket clutch if you want, but look at yours, mine had 125k 60+ 5kdump passes on it and STILL had some life left lol so look at ours and see what is suggested by who does the repair.

What does replacing the clutch do? Can you feel a difference?

Re: throw out bearing

Depends on which clutch you go with. If you go with a clutch like i did expect some clutch chatter and a decent increase of holding power from stock. The engagement is harsh but not too bad.

Is it harder to get those "smooth shifts" I like so much?

See I don't get it. It's such a tiny part how could it possibly mess up and cause something so annoying?
