Forgive my ignorance, but for a '96 GT are these too long? Should I go with a brand name or is this type OK?

No those are not too long.

Mine are 18" and I wish would've gone longer.

Yeah basically.

You can only see the weld from certain angles on my car.
I wish you couldn't see it at all though.

How do you calculate the "in" width? I've mostly seen 2 1/4 and 2 1/2 for sale.

Stock tailpipes are 2.25" so that's what I went with for the inlet width.

Had 0 problems when I got them welded on.

The pipes are measured by outside diameter (OD). Stock pipes are 2.25, most aftermarket cat-backs are 2.5" and I've seen some come with 3" tips for SN95s.

Magnaflow, SLP etc catbacks for our cars even come with 3.5" tips, don't be afraid to go larger than 3" if you want to especially if you go with full length ones, they'll look great.

Wow I never knew they got that big for our cars. I thought they were only that big for the 2005+

my Borla catback is off a new edge and they have 4" rolled tips, I thought they were going to look horrible but I actually really like the look from the rear.

My 3.5" Magnaflows look pretty much the perfect size to me

I have 3.5" and could go bigger, but it is on a new edge. Mine are 22" long

I went with a magnaflow kit for a 99-04 gt on my car. 98-04 gts use the same rear tail pipe hangers. u just need to buy the rear hangers on your car. but this is what 3.5 in tips looks like
