I know I'm new here but I need some help from the 94-98 members please. I have s 96 GT and bought new rims for it. My problem is im getting conflicting information on what fits and what don't . I bought 17x9 and 17x10's for a nice staggered look. I was going to run 275/40/17 front and 315/35/17 rears. I contacted American Muscle and they say it won't work without modification . LMR sells tire wheel packages this same setup thatvthey say fit . So please help with some infomation . Thank you

Whats the offsets/backspacing? Might have to yank the quad shocks in the rear. I had 17x9's in the front and the rim hit my sway bar, full right turns. So I put steering rack limiters on it, doesn't cut off my turning radius that bad.

Fronts are17x9 . 5.8" bs +22mm rears are 17x10 6.250"bs +18 mm. They are suppose to be for the car. I contacted the manufacture to double check the part numbers .

The 03/04 cobra wheels 17x9 are +26mm offset and 6.12". I think mine sit flush, but yours will prob sit flush too, and clearance the sway bar better than mine.

My rears are AFS Wheels 17x10.5, which i only see 18's on their site now, but the offset/BS should be the same. They list +27mm 6.9". Your rears will clear, esp if mine clear with no issues.

If I convert the AFS to frontspacing 27mm = 1.06", 6.9-1.06 = 5.84" x 2 = 11.67" overall width (10.5 is from inside lip to inside lip, rough guess is about 1" wider for overall width).

So my 17x10.5 frontspacing is 4.77".

Your 17x10 frontspacing is 4.83".

I hope all this jabbering makes sense. But you should be just fine, how low are you sitting?

edit, did the math on the front wheels (frontspacing) both mine and yours, and they're both a hair over 4".

I'm lowered 1-1/2. The thing I couldn't figure out on there web site they have my wheels listed for 99-04 but the manufacture says 94-04. Then AM said they won't fit . So my next question is I look in there site for tire size . They say 275/40/17 front and 315/35/17 rear, Does this work?

Not really much difference between 94-04. The 99 04 rear end is a little bit wider. Basically an inch spacer on each side of a 94 98 is what the 99 04 is

It will fit but the 315 is a little large for a 10 inch wheel. They are a bit happier on a 10.5, So expect some bulge. Otherwise the tires will clear, you just may have some rubbing on the front. You also might need to ditch the quad shocks.

In the front is it the 275/40/17 that's rub? Cause I can go to a 245/45/17 it's same as the 275 just not as wide?

I have spares too, anyone that wants some I will send them a pair. I've offered them before, but it gets buried.

Id stay with a 275 up front. Dont go down ever. You shouldn't really have any rubbing issues up front

That's a weird argument.

What is the car used for? Is it a daily driver. With tires that are not as wide the car will be a lot more manageable on the street. It's less likely to track, meaning the rubber is less likely to pull you around. Plus, they will weigh considerably less and that will return much better fuel mileage.

If it's just for looks then fine.

I think I might be going to a square setup soon with 265 or so all around.

As far as rubbing goes, some people rub, some don't. Not a single SN95 body is as straight as it was when it dropped on the factory floor. Every single one has weird twists and such, mostly from having the holy shit beat out of them regularly. Not to mention huge manufacturing tolerances pretty much explain why some rub and some don't.

Again, what is the car for?

Also the car was one owner no mods ever done to it except they put a full Saleen body kit in it . Has 64,000 original miles and first thing I did was sub frame connectors .

Hows that an argument? Its an opinion. Having daily driven my car for 4 years and having 245s to start with for about a year and later switching back to 245s when my 275s were toast on the cobras I wouldnt ever want to have less than 275s all around. Doesnt really matter if its for the track or not.

I would say you were arguing to make a point of "Don't go down ever"

But to each his own. I find vehicles to be much less prone to hydroplane, and easier to manage for normal street driving on thinner tires.

For a track setup, 275+ all around is more desirable because of the added grip.

For looks only, the fat tires are good too. I have 315s on my car that I know do nothing more than slow me down and look good.
