Soooo.

Just got the car back together. Still making that noise, its really not all that loud, same as it was before. The video really makes that noise a lot louder, Im not sure why, just the way the camera is I guess.

However, my buddy started the car when we had both valve covers OFF. There was no noise that sounded out of place there, and if I were to be having PTV or anything like that, Im sure it would be louder with the valve covers off.

But we put the valve covers on, and am still getting that valvetrain noise. We thought it could be the cam lobes hitting the valve cover, not sure how possible this is..Im going to call Hi-Tech to see what they think.

At this point I'm going to just drive it if/till it breaks. The motor seemed to be smoking quite a bit, Im thinking because the gasket didnt sit right on the pass side..AGAIN..it might be residule from before bu tI dont know. At this point I'm going to take it to a shop.

For me it sounds like the noise isnt valvetrain if you didnt hear it with the covers off. I dont know what PTV sounds like but I would think the car would run like complete crap if you had a/some bent valves. Does the car have good power, has the smoke gone away with a little driving, and what color is it? Also does the sound get louder/worse with rpms?I would almost bet that somthing is going on in the timing cover and/or the timing is off. This might sound stupid but if you take somthing like a old golf shaft, arrow shaft, or anything hollow and similer, you can use it as a stethoscope and try to pinpoint the noise(or you can but them from the auto stores too). Take one end and hold it to your ear and put the other end where you want to listen. Glad you havnt givin up yet, hope this helps.

It sounds like its coming from the drivers side head, no noise on the pass side..But like I said, no noise with the valve cover off, let it run for about 10-15 seconds and didnt hear anything.

Just had a guy come look at it..

He wants my car..badly..
He said he'd give me 4500, as is, once its his and if /when it breaks down its his problem not mine.

Or he'll give me a 97 dodge ram crew cab, new tranny new rear end, 160k miles, and 2 grand cash.

It actually hit me that my car may be going to another home..*sigh*.

I had the same noise after I installed a PI motor and VT stage 1 cams in my car. It been about 10k miles since then and car is till running great. Noise is gone. I say tough it out. I was worried about that when I first started my car but I was told that it was the tensioners and related components.

do vt stage 1 cams have issues with PTV?

And man..I could go buy a 04 GT with 30k miles for 8,500 bucks..Yeah, its stock..But still. Buy some hitechs down the road, slap those in, no ptv issues..Idk. Might turn to the dark side..(LS1)

Another thing is I'm having an oil leak now. I can see a little drop on the exhaust under the car..just replaced the valve cover gaskets, pretty sure I got those all torqued down tight. I felt around the head and there wasnt anything soaked in oil around the cover..so maybe this is residule from when I ran it without the valve covers for 10+ seconds?
Not sure how much oil could get onto the exhaust from not having valve covers on for that period of time..I dont know.
