Not too bad, i would have to see how it runs.. You could walk down there, cash in hand and then they fire it up for you,
and the engine sounds like its an old man coughing up a lung... I would say go and check it out, maybe ready to spend the
money if you know of a good painter/body shop, and see how everything else checks out.

$3500 seems fair for that car considering it was in a front end accident that they fixed the cheapest way possible

The plan is to go look at it on Saturday, and feel the guy out. See what he is willing to take for it. Then leave, unless he comes up with a super deal.

I get my bonus check on March 13. Go back after my Florida trip, and make an offer if the car if is still there. Hopefully he will be happy to just get rid of it. If not walk away again.

I'd offer less like 3500 or so.
It just needs some wheels, paint and some love!

The crystal white paint in the 1990's was pretty bad. Most crystal white mustangs that I've seen are peeling. My dads Crystal white 1996 gt was peeling, until I painted it. Chevrolet had this problem with some of their white vehicles too, most of the white pickups I see from the early 1990's are peeling very badly.

This problem was most likely due to the factory trying to get the paint to bond with the new rust protectant that now resides on most newer vehicles.

Get em as low as possible, since the lot probably gave the guy like 2500 on trade in

I own a carlot, they gave him less than that. I also still say it's unlikely they will deal. If it was on my lot, I wouldn't, and I KNOW some kid will come buy it.

Sure lot's of people who consider themselves "in the know" will say it isn't worth that, that dude KNOWS someone will pay it.

You never know though, he might be a nice guy, he might be willing to deal, he might just want it off the lot (I doubt that, I wouldn't care if it sat there for year's, draws people into the lot, then you sell them an Escort). It never hurt's to ask, but for 3k he's gonna laugh. 4, he'll probably take.

Since Matt is an older guy, they'll be more willing to talk to him too. A 19 year old kid, I would damn near ignore on that.

ARDollar says that he thinks he saw that car on that lot 4 months ago. Just because I don't remember seeing it does not mean it was not there. The longer he has it, the more willing he may be to wheel and deal a bit.

Also when I bought my 97 Cobra, they were asking $9800 for it. They kept getting kids to come and look at it that could not get financed, or mom and pop would not cough up the cash. I paid $6600 for it wich was the trade in value of the car at the time, and "according to them" what they gave for trade. If that is true or not I don't know. But they sold it to me instead of hanging onto it because I was not a 19-20 year old kid and felt I would be more responsable with the car. Again "according to them".

At auction, that car, assuming it was bought in the last three months, was bought for under 2k. It's the very beginning of peak car buying right now. Dealer's are just starting to get influxes of cash to go out and buy, so right now, they are fighting over them.

In the summer, when I first got my lot, the other dealers around me were buying boats, and Hummer's... Right now they are driving crap off their lot's, waiting for tax returns. That's why I stacked car's so deep during the bad months. And coasted on the cash. Alot of lot's are floor planned from the auctions on their inventory right now. Meaning they don't own it, and they are paying interest on it daily.

So what kind of deal you can get depends on alot of factors out of your control.

If I get it, it will be white. Hell if i can get it cheap enough I will swap the hood with mine, swap the tires/wheels with mine, swap the right side valve cover, and what ever other mods that are easy to snatch. Then turn around and sell it as a disinterested project car and get my money back.
