ewww this is getting serious ;D Ok I disagree with your entire post. I dont know what is so hard about seeing that one motor is SMALL with a blower, and the other is LARGE without a blower :dunno: GM has decided to keep their large displacement engines and Ford has went with smaller ones with forced induction. Having a motor that is built from the factory for forced induction has big advantages over a NA motor GET OVER IT
. You need to get your numbers more accurate too the Terminator motor was and is UNDERATED from the factory, it makes around 425hp NOT 390. Oh but of course you could put a $100 pulley on it and with a handheld tuner and add almost 100RWHP but that is easily overlooked since its a SMALL OVERHAED CAM MOTOR THAT CAN "SUCK S*^%" Try getting that kind of power out of a LS motor with the same amount of mod money 8)
Oh that goes for a Ford pushrod motor too, im not beating on the 5.0 I have had my share of them including a 91GT with a 5.0 that was nicely built and ran 7's in the eighth street legal with AC / Radio and all. But im not blind to what modulars are doing and capeable of with minimal money if your talking a FI version like the Terminator cobra or a Lightning.
Oh, I see, so you're saying it takes more than an additional ½ ATM for the shitty OHC motor to make the same power as a pushrod motor with only 1.4 more liters? Okay, I get it.
Further, it would be stupid to get into the dollars per horsepower debate, even with mods, given that an LSx crate motor costs about a third of a Sherminator engine. So let's see the advantages of LSx over Sherminator:
1. Smaller, easier to install and maintain.
2. Can be worked on by your average weekend warrior mechanic. (no need for Ford specific tools to degree camshafts)
3. Parts are cheap and plentiful.
4. You only have to buy ONE cam.
5. It costs waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less than the sherminator.
6. Aftermarkets heads and intake are cheap (relatively) and available.
7. Can be punched out to well over 400 inches as compared to the shitty OHC motor plagued with limp-dick bore size.
8. It doesn't weigh a ton and won't use up every square inch of your engine bay.
You can buy a dry-sumped, titanium-rodded, 505 horsepower LS7 for only slightly more than a Sherminator. With headers and a 150 shot, it will put down over 700 rwhp. Wow. Neat. Oh, and that's on the stock computer with no tune.
GM will release the new Camaro, which will lay the smackdown (again) on the pathetic 05+ GT. Chrysler will have the Charger, 300C, Magnum, and eventually the Challenger which all put down significantly over 300 horsepower.
I maintain, Ford OHC technology = shit.
Paul.
