I have a bone stock 94 GT 5.0 5 speed with 3.08 gears with limited slip and 112k miles on the odo. Im wanting to do CAI, throttle body, off road h pipe and cat back american thunder flowmaster exhaust. And a short throw shifter but i know thats not power increase. By doing those mods, what kinda power increase will i see? I saw a youtube video where they took a stock 95 gt 5.0 and did a bbk air intake and throttle body and gained 24 hp. Is this accurate?

you'll see very little.
The best bang for the buck would be gears. 3:55, 3:73, 4:10.
The stock e7 heads really choke the motor.
So on a budget and a stock bottom end get GT40 or GT40P and intake from an exploder 5.0 and a good cam. and you'll see a big jump.
If you pockets are fairly deep, get a set of alumnium heads and intake,
If they're really deep get them ported.

BTW welcome to the madness

Thanks. Im not wanting to dig into the engine. This is my daily driver. I just wanted a little extra hp and sound better. I thought about gears but thats ne area where I have absolutely no experience. I dont want to mess it up. What would a shop usually charge to do the gear swap?

you wont see a huge gain, but my car for example when i first picked it up when it was stock, went from 201rwhp with just a catback / stock. to 226rwhp with said mods, which was a solid 25rwhp gain. I then added intake manifold headers and tune and it was solid 240rwhp, not bad for full bolt on stock heads cam 5.0.

225 will be a tough sell IMO without a bigger intake. The T/B is a complete waste at this time, the intake throat is smaller than a aftermarket T/B. I'd save the T/B cash and pick up a used GT40 intake manifold. They're a snap to swap and you'll gain so much more. Or just pick up a nitrous setup and have 100HP at the flip of a switch. :)

Gears will be the best bang for your buck to make it feel and little snappier.

Keep in mind if you're using is as a daily driver to pick the right gears.

I put 373s in my car. I found the gearing much better for the normal Canadian speeds and I can still drive on the highway decent. Not sure about change in gas mileage, depends how you drive

Gears will make the most drastic difference in performance, next will be exhaust. The stock CAI actually is pretty good honestly, you can remove the air silencer if you want but at this level an aftermarket one will be mostly for looks. Pullies are decent as well, the BBK aluminums I had on mine were VERY nice.

Here is what I recommend for all stock 5.0s:

-Gears, either 3.73s or 4.10s unless you do a LOT of highway driving (3.73s will be right at 2250 RPM at 70mph). Get a speedcal to adjust your speedometer accordingly
-FULL exhaust from the headers to the catback
-Pullies
-MGW shifter
-Suspension/chassis/wheels/tires
-CAI if you must but its not really necessary

This will give you a 220-240 hp 13 second daily driver that can get upwards of 24mpg if you keep your foot out of it and look good doing it.

On my 88 I did equal length headers, h-pipe, flow masters, cai, upper and lower intake, 70mm tb and spacer, upper intake spacer, mass air conversion with a 90mm maf, 24lb injectors, full msd Ignition, 93 cobra computer, under drives, ac delete, smog delete and I was able to get 232 rwhp after a SCT tune. Like others have said, I was at the limit of the stock e7 heads and stock cam. The good thing is the parts are cheap.

pick up some 4:11 gears my friend and you will have fun .

Gears are the great equalizer for these cars that is true but 4.11s are Chebby gears... eewww... You want 4.10s lol. Or 3.73s. The ricers never believe that a low-mid 200whp car can do a 12-13 second 1/4 mile because their shitboxes are making near the same numbers and barely doing a 15 lol.

If you dont wanna go into the motor, build a new one on the side and when you're ready, swap it in!! That's truly the only way you have a one-time, big gain over stock in ONE motion besides forced induction or nitrous. What are your goals for the car? Daily driver? Street/Strip? Autocross/Road racing on the weekend?

Exhaust and cai aren't going to do much. I have full exhaust, longtube headers, o/r X pipe, mac mufflers, 2.5'' tailpipes, cai, 76mm maf, smog pump delete, no emissions. Car doesn't feel quicker down low, but top end has drastically improved. Since its your daily driver, I'd do a set of 3.73 Gears, offroad X/ H pipe / Prochamber, and a full catback. That should make you happy for a bit, you could do a cai, doesn't do much but it looks cool. I did notice a difference after having my cai and 76mm maf put on, I was never able to squeal the tires, after adding the cai and bigger maf, I could lol. I'd also suggest a nice set of aftermarket shorty headers, just for a little more added volume and a coupe more ponies.

This car is my daily driver. I just want it a little more fun to drive. I never drive a car in stock form. I already have another toy that I tinker on. I just want it to have a better growl and a little peppier. Nothing crazy. So I'm definitely going to do o/r x pipe and either cat back or just replace the mufflers to save some $$. I like the gears idea but I have no idea how to replace them and don't want to f!$k up my daily driver.

In that case just do a nice exhaust setup on it and forget the other bolt-ons, they won't be worth the money. The only thing that's actually going to make it quicker would be the "real" mods.

Gears will not mess up your DD whatsoever. If you do a crapload of highway driving you might want to stick with the stock gears for mileage reasons but even then... At 70mph with my 3.73s I am around 2250 RPM which is not bad at all. Even 4.10s aren't bad, like 2400 and just slow down 5mph. I don't get ppl who like to go 80-90mph on the highway anyway but that's just me.

Anybody have a good write up with pics or a good video of how to replace the rear gears?
