A 302 stroker? What? Anyway, a 347 hands down. don't listen to people talk about early wear and using oil, that's bs if you use the new 5.315 rod combo, it uses a 331 piston that way and the 3.4" stroke crank to make 347 cubes and not use oil or side load the piston as the haters claim. I run my 347 with 600 hp as much on the street as I can. It's an everyday car, and I hammer it whenever I get the chance. No oil loss, no problems with smoking, nothing. go with the most cubes you can, and if you are spraying it, go with flat tops and a 10.5 compression ratio.

Ok, so what you are asking is should you swap from a 4.6 to a 347 5.0 based engine? Stick with the mod motor, costs too much to swap everything over imho. You can make a 4.6 haul the mail believe me.

Oh, and 302 4.6 stroker sucks for nitrous, stroke is wayyyyy too long and they have a lot of piston slap that will not like the side load of nitrous. They are ok for turbos and blowers, but not the juice.

I'd like to see a 4.6 get stroked to 347 :)

Strokers are kind of a waste on the modulars since they already have a long stroke. Our engines lack bore size not stroke so if your looking to pick up some CI's go with the Modular Boss 302 Block that has a 3.70 bore size and will give you 302 CI without adding more stroke. It will help unshroud the valves and add some hp and tq. You don't see too many of them around.

Yeah, good suggestion, at 999 from FRPP they are a pretty good deal. We are in the process of gathering parts for a customer to build one now. As for the 302 stroker kit, on a boosted application they will make more power than a stock stroke 4.6. N/A, there is about 15 to 20 hp if you keep the compression close to stock or a little higher. We did the comparison, but lowered the compression with the stroker and picked up about 10 hp. Not much for all that money. What I would do is get a new FRPP big bore block, get a probe kit with a forged steel crank, H beam or I beam rods, and a good set of forged pistons, keep it flat top and slap on a set of TFS heads and a TFS intake, set of nice nitrous cams, and spray the hell out of it. lol. Should be good for 9's in that range. I know guys with those heads in Factory Stock class are running 11.1's. You spray a 250 shot to it, and you should be flyin. Guys in real street running those heads and intake with a blower can run 9.1's as they just did in NJ at the import's vs domestic meet.

Yes, harness, ecu, kmember, trans, exhaust, cai, ignition, etc, etc. It would cost so much you could have a 9 sec mod for the same money. A big bore mod would give you a 302, and would have a lot more torque and power. Yes, a 250 shot isn't on while you are driving around town, it's only on when you are making a pass, so the engine can be very tame. Just use a fogger system, one nozzle for each runner, or use the NX nozzle kit. They work really well and are safe. No plates or single nozzle.

so just go with a 281 stroker to a 302? i can buy a whole motor for $500 and could i run the same heads but use diff cams port and pol the heads in stead of buying about 2000$ worth of heads for it

Well, no, that's not what I said. I said to go with the block for 999 and buy a set of pistons and rods to work with the block and be heavier duty, heck you could use a stock crank in it. Yeah, use PI heads and port them or have them ported.

In the long run, you will have just about the same money in the big bore as you would have just buying the stroker kit. the big bore block comes pretty much ready to go except maybe final honing to fit the pistons.

I also contemplated going pushrod in my 98 just b/c I'm familiar with them but decied against it as NXcoupe has mentioned $$$$. Just going to build myself another fox. Oh btw 97mustanggt...nitrous is BLAST!!! I've ridden/driven turbo and blower cars but there is nothing like a hit of nitrous. :)
