Well I had my first straight up race today, against my friend. Yes it was on the street, in a way. We basically have a unused two lane road called the byron dragstrip, a few cities over. Anyways, long story short, 95 mustang vs 95 mustang.. I got the launch and he reeled my in. I was a good 3 car lengths ahead then he started pulling me in... Now our mods are similar, im confused as to how he managed to catch back up.

His mods.. bbk cold air, upr o/r x pipe, flowmaster catback, 2003 cobras rear tires 315's, Hypertech Chip.

My mods air silencer removed, 13 degrees timing, gutted stock h pipe, cherrybomb glasspacks, 2000 cobra rs rear tires 295's...Sve mongoose clutch. FUgged up Rear end gears...

Im just not seeing whats so much better that he's pullin me in on the top end.

I dont think factory pipes with hollowed out cats make much of a difference

Yea your factory gutted pipes really choke out your car...the stock pipes are what 2 1/4 inch and any aftermarket is atleast 2 1/2...I think, all I know is that any aftermarket pipe will have a larger diameter and it makes for better efficiency. Your rear end being broken is also causing drag on the drivetrain, trust me I know. Mine is bad and I can tell a significant decrease in performance when that rear is trying to spin at high speed.

Lol Probably all of the above... I think mainly the rear end gears.....

and Chris I ran what I brung, and lost.. Im not mad, I just didnt think that it would make that much difference in 2 cars that I thought were kinda similar, minus effed up gears, and a chip.

maybe he installed an external vtak and hid it in his headlight assebly... ya never know...

how long was the race for? the street racers here have a mountain they race down and they have markings at the 1/4, 1/2, and 1 mile.

Well whoever re did my gears, didnt do a good job, so they howl, and i think my teacher told me the backlash is off. They occasionally clunk when i shift hard too, so im trying to take it easy on them.. key word trying. I usually dont race.

if you've ever been inside a ford factory ECU, ANY aftermarket program is helping dramatically.
you said it yourself - you have broke guy mods on a hurt car.
if broke guy mods worked as well as aftermarket parts, no one would buy the aftermarket parts.

seriously...how are you so broke that you can't afford basic 5.0 bolt ons???
