They have to do something to get on top of the camaro... Now that chevy is back in the game ford has to kick it up. I doubt if half of that would happen though....

^ Not really Crone. The sad thing is, Ford with 110hp LESS than the SS camaro is what, .2 slower in the 1/4 mile and actually does the skidpad better and is a generally better driving car with a LRA vs. an IRS? Thats what I call NOT getting in the game. Displacement with classic push-rods gets you so far, but it's really sad to see a pony car 16 years newer than mine STILL using pushrods...

I didn't mean it to sound like I was puttin ford down, It's more than impressive how well they do against the camaro's considerin the large difference in displacement and power. And the fact that it handles so great with the solid rear axle is awsome. But the camaro's are still quicker, and that needs to be changed... :dontknow:

pushrods are simple and work... lsX's are amazing motors... one of the most advanced production car pushrod motors out there

as far as the times.... the camaro is freaking heavy as hell!!! shedding some weight would help a lot but i would be willing to guess the mustang will increase in weight aswell.... seems all cars are right now, its the 70's all over again

But for how long? Ford with a simple 5.0L of displace has 400hp on MODULAR style power, the camaro has what? 6.1L to make just 25hp more with terrible fuel economy? Push-rods are good for power, but you can only use aging technology for so long, the Ford Ranger comes to mind with aging tech...

I smell a repeat of the early 70's coming... large cars with monster engines then BAM the gov't cracks down, fuel hits $6 a gallon and the new for 2014 Mustang II with 170rwhp V8 emerges....

So i'll be stocking up on the new engines just in case :)

That's exactly what I was thinking!! I've always wondered what it'd be like to grow up in the 70's..... :dontknow:

I was born in the early 70's but grew up in the 80's where most cars sucked until the 87 5.0 and GN's came out. All the teenagers i hung out with drove 60's and early 70's muscle cars so thats all i knew. Nobody else wanted them so they were fairly cheap too! It was common to see 17 year olds with big block Chevelles and Novas etc running around on a sat night.

i guess 33mpg in a camaro is terrible huh? that was a 2002 6spd.... you have to keep in mind that weight is a huge factor in mileage, the 98-02's weigh over 600lbs less and get great mileage... the new cars also have a worse aero package and larger rolling stock which all adds up to crappy mileage

last i knew a 2002 gt couldn't touch a 2002 z/28 mileage wise...

LS1 Camaro never got no 33mpg, come on now. It did get better highway mileage than the Mustang though but it's not really a mystery why.
