Re: Collecting parts for a 331/347 Build. Come on in and Help!!!!

get a forged crank its not much more money

id go with a larger cc head like a afr205 and shoot for a piston that gets you 10-10.5:1 unless you plan on a blower etc later down the road, then if thats the case go for 9.0-9.2:1

ditch the bbk tb and go with a accufab

i thought a AFR 205 would be too much for it actually. Guess i was wrong. Forged Crank can be worked into the Equation pretty easily.

What MM accufab??

I figured a Ebay CAI would be fine.

mm should match whatever the inlet of the intake is, no more / no less

I agree with modo. The Street Heat has a 70 or 75mm plenum opening. Do no less than a 70mm tb.

theres no point to run a forged crank in a stock block... none at all.

and If you'd like.... you could buy my 347. It's coming out in the spring!
(yes, it runs... im replacing it with a low compression engine)

exactly what i was going to post! a cast crank should hold all the power a stock block will. now if you were going with an aftermarket block for down the road, i'd say everything forged, but you could spend the extra few hundred somewhere else

I had read that unless im boosting it above 10pds or using a good shot of NOS i should be fine with a Cast crank.

intake is WAY too small. I had a track heat on my 347 an it killed my power after 5k
65mm tb.... seriously? I ran a larger TB on my 302. Go with a 75mm MINIMUM. I run a 90mm.
I hope the LT's are 1-3/4" primaries

i agree with addermk, that intake is sadly way too small. match the TB to whatever the intake size is. any larger is just pointless since your bottle necking it down then into the intake. i don't think afr 185s are out of the question.

I'm not looking to spin the heck out of the motor.

Ok which cam do you think then? I may not go 347 i may go 331 also.

I don't see the TFS being too small for a 331.

I was going off some parts i had and ones that i thought would work. I don't need the smart a$$ comment "seriously"

The neck of the TFS measures 74mm the elbow adapter measures 71-72mm. So i could run a 75mm or a 70mm i think.

I could even just do a simple rebuild on the 302 with forged Pistons. If the block needed to be bored and honed then it could be.

Re: Collecting parts for a 331/347 Build. Come on in and Help!!!!

I had a track heat intake on my 10:1 342 and as was stated above the car pretty much had nothing left after 4500-5k rpm....
So now I'm doing a rebuild and going to a 10.5:1 347, but I'm running a regular TFS R intake (non-box) so I'm expecting a little more power up top.

ya for a street car with a 331, a street heat will work since you already have it, but since you're collecting parts right now, you might as well sell it and get a bigger intake...

otherwise, just look at your budget first. what you want to spend and work from there.

lastly, some will tell you to put some huge heads on a 331 just so you will make the most power, but it seems like this is a street car and you won't care about power at the top end so much. Your head choices seem awesome for a 331 on the street!

I may look into having it ported by a local guy i'll have to see.

I really don't care about making a Certain # like most people are. I want to have a nice reliable fun car.

having a larger throttle body then the inlet of the intake will affect the air velocity. air would hit the lip of the intake and would cause turbulence

Ok so in this instance what would you suggest? It measure 74mm at the upper intake. roughly about 72-71 at the elbow. So should i go 70MM to try and minimize any restrictions or resistance?

what elbow do you have? i thought the trick flow elbow was 75mm and the intake was 75mm. if that's the case go 75mm. if the elbow is only 70, buy a 75mm elbow.

It says 75mm on there website . Although i measured it with my dial caliper and it is definitely 71 MM. I just went out and double checked. Wierd thing is the part # is TFS-SBF-EFI-SN on the bottom of the elbow.
