Are drag radials THAT sticky?

When I had my 92 gt with a vortech and aluminum heads I was running 285/50/17 bfg dr and wouldnt hook at all
I went to a m/t dr and was night and day diff the bfg was like launching in the burn out box woul even spin in 3rd
but the m/t would hook great off the line nearly every time

what size? more sidewall = more hook.

Not always the case but yea the sidewall helps some...

Justin, the heat of the track can definately make a difference. Try about 13 lbs. pressure (too low can be worse with a radial). Do a hard burnout, get them hot. Take off at about 3,000 rpm. You don't want them to break loose, sounds cool, but those 60 foot times will suffer. Get some better control arms, too.

I tried 20,15,13,12 psi in the tires...nothing really seemed to help. My cars a built auto with a 3800 stall aldo so there is not such thing as taking off at 3000. Its pretty much all or none. I definately need control arms.

Same results I had with Nitto's also.. Couldnt get any better than a 1.88, with a big burnout, with my blown & stroked 86GT. That was on a 245/50/16 Nitto, swapped to a Mickey Thompson drag and instantly went to 1.60's... IMO there is no better drag radial than the "Sticky" Mickey!!

David Wolfe just went 4.40s on a set of Drag radials. Pretty sure they were M/Ts.

i would also look at the m+h racemasters. there are racers cutting 1.20s on this radial

Not sure when they were develpoped, and maybe they ahve a better compound now,. But it was 2002/2003 when I had them. And swapped to the Mickey's when they just came out. My car was the test vehicle for them. And when a buddy with a stroked and blown 93 vert saw results, went out and got a set for his car. His car had little mote power thanmine and he ran some good sixty's on route to a 10.80 run, on the 16" Mickey.

lol oh i was talking about the nittos being from mid 90's and the mickeys rule they are my street tire, and use the et drag's for track duty

BFG's have a reputation for hooking better the more they wear down. Mickey thompson radials are hands down the best though.

Your not going to slap on that tire or any tire and cut those times. You need the proper suspension to do so

out of a "normal" bolt on car with a 1.6 short, 1.5 is big boy 1.2.... your running 7 sec or lower et's

Your not going to slap on that tire or any tire and cut those times. You need the proper suspension to do so

Not to mention about a million hp/per lb weight ratio. lol

Even with the most bad ass suspension setup in the world you can only do so much with so much power.

I am well aware of that just letting the op know the options out there. I am trying a set of there 325/45-17
