Car won't go in reverse???

I just tried to back my car out of the driveway and I couldn't get it to go in reverse at all. It goes into every other gear just fine, but it stops before I can get it into reverse. I just change the clutch cable recently. What could be the problem??

Clutch may not be releasing all the way.

Have you tried putting it in reverse with the car off and then starting it?

Reverse doesn't have syncros like the forward gears.

Car off. Clutch in. Put it into like 4th then try to reverse.

Do you have an aftermarket shifter? Make sure the shift stops didn't come lose preventing you from putting it in reverse.

I've tried every combination to get it to go in. I have a B&M shifter, I dont know if thats the problem or not though. The shift stops have always been very tight so i dont think its that.

sometimes mine doesnt like reverse, 5th to reverse goes smoothly. sorry I cant help ya.

back your stops off a little bit, and try letting off the clutch gently while pulling it into reverse... should click in once everything lines up.

I'm gonna try to adjust the stops and everything, might get a STOCK shifter to see if that will fix it.

Sounds like a misadjusted/faulty clutch/clutch cable.

try putting it in reverse and slowly releasing the clutch sometimes that helps

Put the car in first gear, let the clutch out a little bit so the car moves forward a few inches. Then try and go for reverse.

i do the same sometimes when she doesn't want to go in

Yea... I don't want to do that everywhere I go lol. If I go to the store I'd have to find a spot where I could just pull straight out. lol Thanks for the advice tho lol

LOL.. i've been there before. You eventually just go, oh F' it and push the car back. Your cable probably needs to be adjusted badly.

How do I adjust it?? I've never adjusted it before :dontknow:

What kind of cable did you put in the car? Stock replacement, or a ford stock part.. or adjustable? I'd bet the junk aftermarket stock one stretched already, and if its a ford one, then you probably need to get it to readjust itself. If not get an adjustable one. Not getting into gear and clutch cables are two peas in a pod.
