Did you cut the old panels out? I really like the way those look.

Haven't yet, and haven't decided if I am or not yet. Jason cut the old ones out of his fox, but I may leave parts of mine in to have something to tie the wiring harness up to.

Those look good. Can't wait to see em finished.

I'm thinking bout getting them but I might do the rivet version as my car being satin and not a polished looking car might be more sinister looking with the rivets. More of a evil industrial look.

And thanks both of you. I'm ready to see it start coming together too. And I agree rivets would be pretty cool with your car plus you don't have all the work involved with welding them.

Nitrous plate and a spacer plate all in one, how convenient lol. How much spray are you going to put through it?

Still doing some research on the plate system but from what I've read that plate will go from a minimum of 150 up to the big leagues. It's a NOS Big Shot GT40 plate. But at the moment that's all I have. Jason acquired it in a swap so I'm getting it from him. I'll have to piece together everything else I'll need. Not in a rush to be able to spray it either, it'll happen eventually though. But yes, I needed a spacer anyway so it was very convenient lol.

Got a few things done the past couple days. Ordered a distributor and heater core which will be here tomorrow morning, and you know what that means.....I get to pull my dash. Woohoo. But I also have another reason for pulling the dash. Reading thru some other threads I found where someone had cut a hole in the firewall just behind the bellhousing and fed the wiring for the injector harness, trans harness, and sending units through that hole.

In the picture you can see the hole just below the dash vent box. So last night I went ahead and got started getting all the bolts out of the dash, only need to drop the steering column and it'll come out.

I also brought my accessory brackets and wiper cowl trim back to the house for some cleanup and paint. Repainted the cowl with SEM Landau black (forgot to take pics).
Since I already got rid of the smog junk and I'm ditching the AC, I decided to cut the excess mounting portion off the brackets for them. (I have another set of brackets if I ever decide to use the AC again). All together I spent about 3.5 hours on getting them smoothed back out. After they get painted you'll never be able to tell anything is missing.

Smog pump mounting tab removal:

After filing down what was left of the two tabs:

Then started working on this part, 'twas a *****:

A lot of elbow grease turned it into this:

Next was the power steering/AC bracket. Before:

Was it worth it? I think so, not for the weight savings lol but for a cleaner look and more room to work on things. Will I ever do it again? I fvcking hope not.

And finally a few issues with the valve covers. I'm determined to make these old fox valve covers work for the time being...they were free. I'm using a twist in cap on the driver side cover as an oil fill, but then had to figure out what to do on the passenger side for PCV back to the intake tube. I don't really plan on using a catch can, maybe a small oil separator down the road if it becomes obvious I need one, but for now just wanted to replicate the factory style PCV system. I tried opening the hole up and using a push in grommet, well that didn't work. On to plan #2, took the cover to a friend at a machine shop and had him weld in a plug in the cover.

Not the best looking job but the labor was free. And as you can see it got a little hot during the welding. So now it's stripped back down and waiting on me to figure out how I want to repaint them both.

It'll be one of three options:
1: The same as before, grey and polished fins with a clear coat just like the upper intake.
2: Wrinkle or flat black with polished fins.
3: Grey around the sides, black in the background behind the fins, polished fins.

I've got plenty time to decide on a paint scheme. What y'all think?

Oh yea, as for the PCV dilemma. My next plan was to drill a hole in the plug I had welded in the vc, then have an -an bung welded into it, and one in my intake tube. Then I could run a braided hose between the two and boom, PCV system. It'll cost a little but will also look better than some old raggedy vacuum hose and will blend in with my braided fuel lines. Anyone have any suggestions?

What started out tonight as "I'm going to get my other valve cover then come back home" turned into "putting an anti-roll bar on the Coyote car and pulling the dash out of my car."

God that sucked.

What sucked worse was pulling the injector harness and transmission harness back through this hole in the firewall.

Next up is gonna be cutting away some of the insulation on the firewall and stripping the wrap off the harness to give me enough slack to run them where I want them. Picked up a heater core and distributor today also.

The factory dash already had a couple splits, and they only got worse after pulling it out...soo it looks like I'm gonna get a new dash too finally. Already have a lead on that though.

This build is getting deep...when I started I had no idea it would be at this point and now here we are.

Whats the main reason for running the harnesses through the firewall? Is it just for a cleaner look rather than having them come through the passenger side of the engine bay?

That's exactly it lol. I already wanted to figure out a new way to run the plumbing for my sending units, hated the way they were done before. So now you shouldn't be able to see anything coming out of the passenger fender area except the fuel lines and intake tube. It's a little over kill but it'll look a lot better in the end.

Sounds interesting. Do you happen to have a pic of how it looks?

Build is coming along nice.

Thanks man. The only picture I have is the one I posted that just shows the location of the hole in the firewall. I'll put a grommet in the hole and feed the harness out of it directly behind the center of the intake.

I have a feeling this is going to make me regret not doing it when I pulled my dash lol. I'll checking back for some pics once it all pulled through and finished.

I looked and didn't see any but I may not have looked enough. I knew he did something similar though.
