Few questions on motor build

Im looking to pick up a teksid block (gonna start calling local junkyards tomorrow) to start a motor build. What I want is roughly 300-400hp when done, and I'll probally throw nitrous on at a later date, but for now I want a strong running car, and a good learning project. I want to keep it a 2v (I have a non pi slug). What kinda pistons, cams, cranks etc. do you guys recommend? What brands are bad? Good? Im a total newb so any help would be greatly appreciated. The highest octane around here is 93 (if that matters). Kinda on a budget too.
