I know it's dangerous. I know I'm pressing my luck. But it's my high, it really is. It's an addiction.

For the record, I never initiate. Which is a bummer, since I've been driving this beast for about a month now and have had many potential opponents that I wanted to get a piece of.

I digress.

I'm cruising along, it's the middle of the day in Phoenix, was moderately hot, so I had the AC blowin'. I'm in the far left lane, next to the HOV lane, doing about 65. Mr. Redline comes roaring up (exhaust for sure, intake likely, probably more...sounded well-tuned), revs once. I drop it into 4th, give it a rev, and he takes off...so do I. The blower's been funny lately, I know I need to have it checked out, but the short of it is I was running at about 6 PSI. This being my first run in the Mustang, the ol' thinker wasn't working right, so I reverted to my high-revving days of owning imports, and dropped it to 3rd. Realize my mistake and lose a car length getting back to 4th. :BangHead:

Pulling up next to him, I need to change lanes for traffic ahead, so I go to the center lane, and then have to get right back. By the time this happens, I'm in 5th and have put 2 on him again. It was at this point I take a moment to check my gauges...and decide to put a stop to this 130 MPH insanity in medium daylight traffic.

I've hurt his pride (surely my big, heavy, 14 year old slow-ass GT would lose quickly in a roll...hah...those gauges aren't for oil pressure and exhaust temps, son), so he flies by and takes an exit. With weight (~250 lbs), 2 miss-shifts (just ordered a new quadrant, should help), the roll, and the AC working against me, I feel pretty good.

Cool, Ion's aren't that fast though I took one in my gt when it had the stock heads and cam full bolt ons from a 40 rollto about 110, it was close though I only got him by a two cars... 5.0 power! :headbang:

yeah, this guy seemed to be far from stock...I didn't want to make any assumptions past what I could hear and see. At any rate, good times (and it's 4.6 power in my case :tongue3:).

Don't get a ticket or your car repossessed because you're racing an ION. :nono:

LOL, good point...I'm a bit cooled down now, I've just been wanting to have a go at someone for the past 4 weeks.

FYI, the Ion is not an import (and really, must it be silly? I kicked a lot of ass with my nearly stock 300ZX, embarrassed more than one muscle head), it's a Saturn. Not only an American company, but they rolled off the line in Tennessee, and you don't get much more American than that.

I'll be hitting the track, don't you worry, but not until I get a new belt and a tune.

Precisely...he could have been swapped to an bigger blower, etc. Doesn't seem like he was, but it was fun.

Why did u sell the 300zxtt those are badass I've always wanted one :drunken_smilie:

It's complicated...at the stage I was at in my life, it was a secondary car, and I just couldn't afford to keep it. Thankfully, I sold it to my father, so it's still in the family. One thing I don't miss is the cost for parts...for instance, there's no option for a rebuilt transmission, my father's going to be looking at about $2k for a new one. A rebuilt engine is about 3-4k. LSDs are about 1300. It's the curse of limited production.

You're right I meant silly little compact FWD 4 cylinder. I don't care if its supercharged, it still makes pitiful power even when modded.

I wasn't talking trash either I was just telling you beating a worthy car at the track is much more gratifying than beating a boosted compact.

And yes I have tons of friends with cobalt SS's (same thing) and I have tuned all of them so I'm very aware of what they can do. Fully modded and tuned they will barely pull a pi mustang..

Furthermore the 300z was a descent car in its prime but severely underpowered by the tiny turbos, sure you could make them quick like anything else but mid 14s from a boosted car doesnt get me excited... should of said supra atleast.

Off the showroom floor the Z32 TT ran in the 13.9 area. It wasn't until the 370Z (more than 10 years after the Z32's demise) that Nissan produced a Z car that could best it. With an intake and light flywheel, with about 90k on the odometer, on a cold track at about 1800 ft elevation, I ran a 13.86 at 106 MPH and blew the doors off an S197...considering that trap, I should have been closer to mid-13s, but like I said, it was a cold track, so traction was a myth.

On stock turbos and stock ICs, the Z32 can make 330-350 WHP. I only bring that up because you cite the size of the turbos to be a negativity. There are TTs now making in the 800-1000+ hp range. Not quite in the range of Supras, but I'll take the $10,000 I saved on going with the Z32 and buy something to go over rocks with.

Supras don't impress me. They really don't. Extremely over-priced, and the Z32 is the superior in handling. I'll take 500 WHP Z32 with race suspension over a dyno queen 1000 WHP Supra any day.

Jessica Barton's (Hot import night model) 1000hp supra is no dyno queen

But is that crank or wheel?
Regardless, you're right, my fingers got ahead of the brain...it's more than possible to tune a Supra to 1k hp and have it be fine on the street.

But I still prefer the Z. They're still making more, that's gotta say something. :)

I would not have posted a race against a Saturn Ion. You are expected to win. If you loose, might as well make a sharp right and put it in the guard rail.

1078hp to the wheels
