eh, i would go with a "no" on this one. but thats just me. too much headaches to make sure it all works good, not to mention you dont know who did the work and how good the work was done, and i just hate stroker motors too.

it looks solid to me, but it is alot of work, make sure its kosher before you buy it. unless you know who did the work, and did they do it right? or just good enough to sell it?

You guys have a good point. Unless I knew who built I wouldn't consider it.

Hey, just because it's bought from a guy, even if it comes from D.S.S or something, you still don't know who built it. To me, everything is a core, period. I wouldn't buy it and slide it in, but I would buy it, disassemble it, check it, and put it back together.

You know what your doing :thumb: Sure I could build one, would it be 100% correct probably not, and I don't know anyone locally that knows what they are doing thats willing to help me assemble one yet.

All you need to know is the clearance and torque specs. Anyone can use feeler gauges and plastigauge. And a dial indicator is like 25 dollars from Harbor Frieght. Look at Pauls build up thread, he pretty much outlines the entire process.

It's only held together with nuts and bolts, not magic and dreams.

I have my dial indicator and micrometer from when I installed my gears and rebuilt my rear end. at least I did all that work correctly, has 6k miles on it since then. Got a link handy to Paul's build thread?

Thanks for the link. Looks like its cheaper to buy a complete forged engine from someone that wants to get rid of it and tear it down/ rebuild it then it is to buy the parts.

You don't even have to rebuild it, just check the bearing clearances, and ring gaps. Check that everything looks good visually, etc.

After seeing Paul's build, I can't just do that. I want a bunch of powder coated pretties now. Well I'm going to go pick up some PI heads/cams this weekend and I think I will start looking for a forged bottom to take apart. Thanks for the info J.R. I'm out for tonight.

Yeah, I could care less about the pretties myself, lol. But I am very anal about touching and checking everything myself, a guy I work with wanted to sell me a rebuilt AOD for 100 bucks, and he's honest. He couldn't understand why I wouldn't take it even though it's cheaper than rebuilding one myself (he was honestly trying to help, lol), I just ain't like that.

I know people who snag motors out of the junkyard, and alternators, batterys, and brake pads too, and nothing ever happens. My luck don't run like that though.

Goodlcuk on the search bro :thumb:

Well I picked up my PI heads/cams yesterday, was a 5 hour trip total but it was worth it. I already had cams but this was a good deal for everything so I went with it. Now to find a block, I might have found one. Whats the cost on having a block machined, what ever needs to be done on a used block?

Depends, I mean whatever your local marke will bear, for a full blueprint, expect 600-1k. For a simple bore and hone, 200-500

I'm wondering if I should just buy a MMR shortblock for that price then.

I guess, I mean, you just tripled the price, lol. Call around and ask is all I can tell you.

Well, I was adding up the cost of forged internals and everything, its coming out more than the cost of a MMR shortblock. What would you recommend J.R.?
