Got some new stuff today

Bought a set of cobra brakes off a guy on svtp, got them in this afternoon. I got the calipers, brackets, lines and rotors for $225 shipped. Not too shabby I think. They're dirty, gonna clean them up the next couple days and probably paint them a different color than red. Any ideas? Here's some pics

Find a place that will turn those rotors. So what you ddo is you clean them up spray the whole rotor then when they cut it you have nice lines and it will look purtttty.

I was pretty sure you couldnt turn drilled and slotted rotors. The bit will catch every edge of the drilled holes or the slots. I would buy some new ones.

That's a good price because it cost the guy $50 or so to ship that much weight! Be sure you got the Banjo bolts for the cobra lines. They are larger than the GT ones!

You would be right. You cannot turn drilled/slotted rotors for the reason you said. I asked one of my supervisors about it and said basically exactly the same thing you did. I wouldn't turn rotors anyways, when brake pads wear out, I replace both rotors/pads, less chance of warpage and I just feel better have fresh parts in the system that stops my car .

I've Turned a few, but you have to watch them and like he said, go slow. Be sure to measure thickness because if you cut too much the rotors will crack!

How do the "fingers" of the lathe, no matter how slow you go, not catch the corners of the holes and slots? Not knocking anyone of this, I'm just curious. Are there different types of lathe machines for rotors?

Remove the old paint with aircraft stripper, degrease it all, use duplicolor to paint them, use a high temp clear, and then sand on a flat surface to remove the paint on the COBRA lettering.

As long as your not taking off huge amounts at a time it will be just fine. That's why i said you have to take off little amounts at a time.

I wouldn't turn drilled/slotted rotors. I'd paint it and hit the rotor with 180 on a DA then call it a day.

started stripping the paint from one of the calipers today, sanded and painted the rotors. Pics will come when im finished, it'll be awhile fellas

Really dont see it working that way. Take your finger and pretend your a lathe, no matter how slow you go you finger will fall into the slots/holes, then imagine your finger is metal with a bit for a fingernail....either you're ripping your fingernail off or taking chunks of rotor with your.

Have you ever run one. They don't just drop when there pulled across the rotor. There set in place then get drawn back in.

Win, it has to do with compromising the metal. Comparing one solid point of contact thats defined and sharp, to a large surface area covered by the pad, is not nearly the same. You can cut them I'm sure, I just wouldn't trust the integrity of them shortly after
