Back when I was grow'd up, I had an 82 firebird in highschool - it came time to buy a new car, I test drove the 96 firebird, and 96 mustang.
back then I didn't know that much about either, but the mustang rode better, and had a much better interior. So I bought the mustang. but hey, that was 12 years ago.
my 2C on the debate is there's pro's and cons for either, obviously I like the mustang better, but really it takes a good amount of aftermarket to make either car really sweet.

you really need to swap out those hyperuchipdick pistons with some forged, and overboost that thing.
you can get close to 500 on the eaton, but it runs hot.
or you can swap to a KB, or Whipple to hit the 600's there's plenty of kits out there.
pulley, exhaust & a good tune get's you very good gains on a forged 4V lil 281.
