So this thread will be my exploration of drag racing with a stick. As of now i'm a total newbie at this. My 60FTs are in 2.30s
The goal is to knock that down to at least a 1.60 by the middle of season.
I'm not hooking the bottle up until i hit 60fts in the 1.60s.
I'm going to try this on street tires and slicks. The only thing i might add would be a 2 step

My next update will be Friday night. I will also add, if anyone has advice or tips please share

Your signature cracks me up btw...

There are a few 'free tricks' you can try before spending a lot of money;

1] Weight Reduction - I told you about the weight reduction in your other thread..

2] Disconnect your front sway bar - this will allow for better weight transfer that will equal better traction [if you remove it'll drop some weight also, just reinstall for street driving]

3] PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! - Perfect your launch to find the happy medium between excessive wheel spin and bogging the engine

4] Tire pressure - This can be fun.. Find a secluded place you can literally peel out as many times as you wish without the law interferring.. Inspect the black marks to see if they're darker in the middle or darker on the outer edges.. If the center is darker, you have too much air & if the outer edges are darker, you dont have enough.. You want a nice consistant mark.

5] Reduce rolling resitance - Although this isnt necessarily free, if you can borrow or find another donut [spare tire] you can use the wheels to mount skinny tires up front to reduce your rolling resistance. That isnt the BEST idea but many have done it. Just dont use the dry rotted, cracked or otherwise sketchy looking donut tires. Buy some 165/60-15's or whatever size fits. If you can, invest in a set of draglites, prostars, etc

Not bad from the memory of an evil, wanna-be road racer guy...

Zero suspension mods and your rolling around on some busted tires? Doesn't sound like a recipe for success to me. If it were me I'd at least have some GOOD tires mounted up. White gave you some good advise. But if your going to have a chance of a decent 60 at the very minimum you need good tires. 1.6's are going to take tires, susp work, and practice.

Yea my NPI shit box would do consistent 1.7 60ft's just had gears and mt et streets 26x11.50-16's out back stock rear suspension lowered on eibach prokit it did 1.68 and 1.69 but it ran like a 100 passes in the 1.7's but I'm leaving and dumping the clutch anywhere from 4500-5000.

Your goal should be to transfer as much weight backwards as possible and put down traction. So if you're really interested in building the car right youd want a softer rear end set up as far as springs and shocks are concerned, some good rear control arms, subframe connectors, and some good tires. Those are the basics, and it can easily be done right for less than $500 not including the tires.

There was a guy on my other forums that ran 12s in his Bullitt with a stock motor because he built the suspension right and could shift like a mofo.

He was on here too. Yea suspension is key to going fast

Rich? He was great, he got sick of the morons coming and going on allfordmustangs and he left. Plus the mods banned like 4 of the top contributors to the SN95 section because they would make fun of members coming in asking about super common stuff. That's kind of why I've been trying to integrate into these forums as well. That place got overrun.

Lmao, your in the 2.30s and you think you will get to 1.60s with just a set of tires? I say the front end comes up and right back down unloading the slicks causing wheel spin and a blowout...

brought my 60 ft down to a 2.144. starting to learn how to slip the clutch.
I'm not doing shit until i know how to drive the damn thing 1st. My goal is to get good 60 fts and good at launching and shifting where i need to be. After i get used to all that then i will start upgrading. And my broke ass slicks lasted me one more night. Now its time to move on to a new set.

well I'm all about the slipping crap. I'v tried the dumping the clutch at 45-5k and it boggs. No sense in letting it dump when you don't have the power behind the wheels to keep it from bogging down
In fact here's a great article on it. And yes i know its from a chevy forum, but its still a great read.

And 1 more thing that slipping the clutch brought my time down from a 10.25 to a 10.09. Its a slow ass time but it worked for me
