Well I've finally got working on my new engine for my 94 Fobra convertible. I've been talking with Jim over at ford-strokers and first thing I have to say is he's a hell of a nice guy and definitely knows his stuff. He talked me out of a 331 stroker and into a 347 (will be a stock block). My only real question remaining is whether to go with AFR 185's or the AFR 205's. The car is not really raced, but I love having the extra power as I'm coming from a 380rwhp LT1 Camaro. So what are your guys thoughts on the 2 heads. I'm also going to be going with a custom Jay Allen cam from him and a Holley Systemax intake with a Trickflow 75mm elbow and 75mm TB. I'm still thinking about 30 pound injectors for it and a matching 76mm MAS. Any thoughts or recommendations on this combo?

If you are getting a cam from Jay you should talk to him about your head choice.

I'm starting the same project you are. 347 with a stock block and a custom cam from Jay as well as heads and an intake. When I am ready to purchase my cam and heads I will let Jay point me in the right direction.

I've currently got 1 5/8 MAC LT's will those work and also are the 30lb. injectors going to cut it or should I look into some 36's?

make sure the spring tension on your valve springs match the lift and duration on your custom cam...If they aren't strong enough, you will have valve float...If they are too tight, then that is extra resistance that the engine has to over come to turn...Your cam grinder should be able to tell you the correct tension and length to work with your afr's...

I highly recommend that you blueprint your block, and balance your your entire rotating assembly, it will make a huge difference in how smooth it runs...

30lbers should be fine with your combo, they work great with mine...and the longtubes would be great, as long as the ports on the heads are close....Use a copper head gasket with permatex copper silicon to seal them forever....

lt me know if you have any questions, I pretty much have the same combo and mine passed smog in Cali on the first try...So I think I did alright...lol Good Luck!

Yeah the entire long block will be assembled by Jim over at ford-strokers. So I'm pretty sure it'll all be well setup and he's going to have the springs matched to the cam we decide on. I'm really trying to see if I can come up with the extra money to get the Boss block, we'll have to see on that one.

185s.

And have whoever grinds your cam spec out your springs for you. Otherwise the combination is just peachy.

Curious why you would run a copper head gasket instead of a Fel-Pro 9333PT-1 or a MLS gasket?

Sorry I meant "header" gasket...and here's why

I attended a permatex presentation on how to properly use their products, and there I learned that copper is the best material to seal the header because it is a soft metal, but won't burn like the paper/metal or other composite type gaskets....He also said if you use the copper silicon they have along with it, they will be sealed for good...So far so good for me...

I see, I will only be purchasing parts from him and did not look into the other aspects of his business.

Yeah I've discussed going with a complete long block from him and think I've decided on the 185 heads unless I can swing the money for the Boss block then I'll be going with the 205's. Should be a pretty fun street car a 347 with AFR 185's, Holley Systemax intake, Jay Allen cam, Canton oil pan, MAC LT headers, 30/36 lb.injectors, 76mm MAS, some 1.6 roller rocker arms, Trick flow TB elbow, 75mm TB and go get it a nice tune thrown on it. Hoping to throw down 380 at the tires.

YOu will have fun. You will probably wanna go with 36# injectors though. YOu should see that power at the tires, pretty easy, after a proper break in, of course.

Cool ordered my TB, injectors and MAS today. 75mm TB, 36 lb./hr injectors and 76mm MAS. Still trying to decide on what clutch I'm going to go with for this engine. I've never really need anything beyond a King Cobra clutch in the past when dealing with a basically stock 5.0 with gears and an exhaust. Any recommendations for a nice street clutch that will handle this engine without any problems?
