Would be sad seeing this car LS swapped but cheap fun atleast. I know you like high compression builds. You should do a gen2 high compression setup.... now that would be spicy.

I should, but I’m cheap. I’m going to slam another piston in it and see how it goes. If it doesn’t work out, it might get a little wild. High compression and some spray.

Forgot to upload, but I got the k member dropped and oil pan down Tuesday. Pulled the piston out and checked it.

Pretty sure I found the problem.

Also found this, the starter lug was broken. I don’t know how it was making contact enough to start.

I also had to replace the jack on my engine hoist. HIGH QUALITY TOOLS. Does this mean I’m going to die now?

So today, I ordered a new pistons, rings, rod bearing, head gaskets, oil pan, and a head cooling mod. I’m understanding this damage comes from detonation. The question is why. I’ve got the timing set the same as a Ford program but I didn’t have the head cooling mod and apparently these engines have coolant flow problems at the back cylinders.

You figure after having to recall thousands of 4v motors they would fix the coolant flow

Cooling flow revision could have been as simple as enlarging the water holes in the headgasket.

Although i like the cooling mod best

Yeah the mod works the best. It helps solve that deadhead issue pretty well.

I broke a piston lol. If you scroll back just a little bit, I showed pictures.

Oil pan gasket?

Nope. That’s the glory of reusable rubber gaskets. I swapped for the mustang gasket (windage tray) like you did and it’s still good.

Looks like some tuning adjustments are in your future. Are you just running premium pump gas?
I really don’t think is tune related. I think it was detonation, but I feel that it was caused by the extra heat built up in that cylinder due to coolant flow issues. I always run 93 in it.
