The only thing I would change about this build...from day one...I never would have touched a 6.0. I would have bought nothing but junkyard 5.3s and ran them into the ground.

Half way done with the hotside. REALLY pained me to hack out the inner fender but a turbo there looks better than the shaved inner fender any day. Waiting for tubing for the wastegates (twin tial 44mms), then I'm gonna spray bomb it all and wrap it all with titanium colored exhaust wrap. I had my buddy weld on the V-Bands for me since the truck manifolds are cast steel and I wanted to ensure it lasted...and looked good. Everything else is mild and MIG'd by me. I'm no pro but I think it came out decent. I have tons of clearance everywhere I could ever need it. Still need to fab a frame mount to support the turbo then begin the downpipe. Still a LOT of work to do but at least we have progress.

Going to spray these black and polish the stock heat shields and stainless hardware.

Don't know why its upside but...here is the tensioner setup and alternator bracket now. Was a BMR. Learned something new...The alternator was a leftover from a C6 vette and worked great with the BMR bracket...a factory style F-Body bracket...not so much. So I'll be searching for a deal on one of those.

Passenger side. Yes...I had to cheat a bit on the bends and put a little "extra" weld in there but nothing much. Again, I'm not a pro.

Yes...thats duct tape on the V-Bands. Don't buy chinese clamps...

Boom. Airfilter fits too.

Alright. Got the turbo mount done. I notched and plated the frame rail forward of the strut tower. Welded a 5/16" plate on top of that to both the turbo flange too.

Wastegates are tacked in position now as well. Got to plumb the dump tubs still as well.

AAAAAnd now...to avoid the dust and shit flying everywhere at the shop, I brought the engine building to the house. I built the shortblock at my good friend's shop, EVOD Garage in their engine clean room under the supervision of their engine builder/lead mech. I asked a lot of questions but ultimately, my hands were the only ones to touch it so that feels pretty good. Anyway, brought the short block home and starting putting parts on in my spare time under the watchful eye of Leroy.

This time the motor has Wieseco flatops. Compression comes in around 9.5:1 with 72cc 317 heads and a .051 Cometic.

Rebuilt both heads as they were used just to check them out and add new seals. Cleaned and lapped the valves.

For those who remember what happened to the last combo...I am making damn sure it doesn't happen again. For those who don't know, my stupidity and/or lack of attention led to the oil pump bolts backing out and the pump deflected away from the block, starved the bearings and wiped out all the crank and rod bearings. Sooo...being an aviation mechanic and taking a suggestion from a fellow junkie on here, I did this.
409788428.jpg

And now...the completed motor.

I was debating forever on what to color to paint it. Then I saw an ammo can sitting in corner and the light buld came on. Should be a pretty sweet contrast to the orange of the car.

I have a 3.5" Cobra R but it doesn't come close. I'm going to trim the hood around the elbow and charge pipe.

I def would like to see what/how you trim the hood. Post some pics when you get to it! I currently have the same hood as you but debating on the VFN extended 5"

I tried to sell this hood but since its not a factory color and people don't want to pay shipping on it, I'll stick with it. I like the extended hoods but I worry about one good gust of wind whipping that ****er of the roof of my car...

good idea on tying in those bolts.... sorry to hear about the failure on the last run, but hey - that's what we live for, right?!

look at all that space you have with the LS.... im pretty jealous of that, that's for sure. lol.

So I've been slacking on pretty much every forum I'm of with updates so lets play catch up.

Biggest intercooler on eBay front a center. Surprisingly it required zero trimming of the bumper cover.

Upper intercooler mount
410286621.jpg

410286620.jpg

Biggest feat has been the exhaust...a SHIT load of cutting and even more welding it all back in.

cut the strut tower all to shit.
410286618.jpg

Punched a hole out here.
410286616.jpg

Connected the two

410286627.jpg

I rebuilt the entire strut tower back in with an 1/8" steel "skeleton" and then plated it all in with 16 gauge. Plenty sturdy again.

Boosh. Stainless exhaust ring.

410286617.jpg

Snapped this pic the other day just b/c the car look ****in' sinister...

So I made the tranny mount next to get the motor where it needs to be to finish up the wasteagate dumps.

1.5" .120 box tube sleeved inside. Gonna gusset the "tab" for the actual mount as well. 4L80 is a big sum*****. Had to massage a few areas under the car.

With that trans in place, wastegates and cold side were next.

and cold side fitment

410286629.jpg

410286623.jpg

a few more details to iron out, then the motor comes back out, grind, prime, and paint under the hood, reinstall, wire, and fuel system. Going to run a 15 gallon on pump gas and a 3 gallon for E85. Quick disconnects to switch between the two. Thats about it for now.
