Explorer motor swap. Aluminum block + PI. Ask justin about it

Id reccomend it...drops 80 lbs off the nose and its a straight forward swap.

Otherwise id say go with a mark8 4v.

Gonna cost you a fortune if you don't do it Yourself though

O, if not doing the work yourself, do the PI swap. You will get nickle and dimed on any other swap.

For the cost of a pi swap you would be better off buying a junkyard explorer 4.6. It swaps right in, just put your cover and accessories on it and your good to go.

Pi power and 80 lbs off the he nose

True but my bottom end is ****ed and the cost to do a rebuild would be outrageous. I figure find a low mileage pi motor and find someone who would install it for me for some extra cash in their hand.

Mark 8 4v's make around 280hp and 285 ft lbs stock, the LSC versions of the mark 8 makes 285hp and 290 ft lbs I'm pretty sure Lobird will chime in to help me on that. Both of us have mark's. If you get a mark 8 motor, get one from a 97-98 so you can do a Cobra intake swap. Cobra intake on a 93-96 Mark 8 motor is pretty much pointless. Then some cams and you'll be making some nice power lol

Thats not true. The earlier mark motors benefit the same from the cobra intake swap. The only real difference is the valves in the earlier are more shrouded and the valve springs suck. But work fine for the cams that are in them. If you swap cobra cams in them you need to do springs as well.

its the other way around man. 93-96 Marks had better intakes then the 97-98s, thats why a 93-96 can beat a stock 97-98 both cars being stock. I know about the valves and stuff but the 93-96 marks were quicker than 97/98s thats why most people with a 97-98 mark 8 do a cobra intake swap, Gen 1 marks (93-96) usually don't too often.

You can do the Cobra intake swap on either but it doesn't gain power on a Gen 1 Mark engine. The Gen 1 intake flows as well as the Cobra and no one has seen any real measurable power gains from the swap, it does however make everything much easier to get to. The Gen 2s really benefit because of the 2 piece intake design. The upper intake has 2 very small openings feeding all of the air to the lower, guys usually see 15-20hp gains from Cobra swaps on Gen 2s. Also 95 and 96 Gen 1 engines got the better heads and beehive valve springs.

In all honesty jones . The 4.6 is one of the simplest motor swaps ever . I have no doubt you and a buddy could get it done. Sucks about the motor . I also agree with grabbing a exploder motor huge weight savings

I may look into that and see what I can find what year should I look for?
