the swap on my car was a night and day difference, and i did get it tuned but i fealt that i could've gotten a way better tune and when i install my longtubes, nitrous and stall im getting a whole new tune and see what i do n/a. I'm also doing this on all stock Intake mods. I want to see what kinda of power i can make with just a drop in full exhuast, cams, and swap!

Any updates on your project?

Update - my cousin with the BAB GT ordered his PI swap yesterday.

He was looking at just the intake and cams since his wife is pregnant and all that, but decided to go the extra bit and do the headswap.
he has a vortec on there already and I expect he'll gain about 100 HP from it.
I'll let you guys know his power gains when he's done.

Is your cousin going to get the Cometic head gaskets to lower the compression?

Yes he is, thanks for the suggestion.
but he's getting shit from the tuner he picked in Denver.
Saying it messes up the timing ect. sounds like inexperience to me.

I'd like to give him some more info on it.
Do you know what is needed to get it tuned with that cometic gasket on there.?
Is there any tricks to it, or is this guy just whining.??
all it changes is the compression... I dont see the problem...

He also called Fox Lake about the gasket and they gave him some doubts.
Any feedback would be helpfull! :)

well i can see what they are saying since the gaskets will raise the heads but i doubt it will be enough to stretch the timing chain....Their are just too many guys running Cometic gaskets to say they will mess things up. Strange part is most of the guys i know who bought them got em from Fox Lake so i don't know why they would bash them.

Someone on MD did the calculations, I don't remember the exact number, but it changes timing by less than a degree.

Thanks for the feedback.

How does that effect the timing chains? Isn't the ratio the same?

He did decide to go with a different tuner. he got sick of the whining (I know what he means!)
I'll let you know how it turns out.

OK, so the compression goes up to 10.3 with the PI heads...
According to my builder - not 10.8 as I was told before...
Stock compression is 9.8:1

can anyone confirm this?

My cousin did the headswap on his vorteched 98 last week.
No cometic gasket, straight swap and tune.

He's getting 4.8# on his SQ and got 340 rwhp.

He was at about 260 before.

at 7# he will hit 400 to the wheels, but wants to drive it like this for a while.
needs new rear tires, and a pulley, then will retune.

All the parts come in that kit - for 1350...
the install is another matter.

He had his buddy at ford do it, paid him 400 bucks.

great write up!!! if i wasnt going to be gettin 2002 motor id be PI swaping my car also but since the 2002 motor already has it and im hopefully getting one im just droppin the whole motor in and callin it a day. but PI Swaps on the 96-98 GTs are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by anyone with a brain and common knowlegde about modular motors. i say for anyone who has one and is debating, GO GET IT!!!!! :thumb:

another question.
1a- PI intake swap without adaptor kit - gains 18 rwhp NA. (naturally asperated)

To do this, you will need the following parts:
XW7Z-9439-AA intake gskt $6.08 ea
F8AZ-10153-EA alt brkt $10.53
XR3Z-18B402-AA coolant tube $19.67
F1VY-8255-A thermstat housing o-ring $3.83
F1VY-8507-A water pump o-ring $2.43
XR3Z-9L437-BA upper plenum o-ring $3.05
F75Z-8555-AA coolant tube nipple $5.73

does anybody know total price for this including labor? if anybody has had this done recently?
