Couple of questions here:

1. I’m currently running 275/50x17 Nitto NT450 Extreme Performance rears and “Jinyu” (WTF?) Yugi 245/45x17 fronts. Don’t throw darts yet; that’s what the car came with, so not my fault! I noticed today that the rears show some cracking:image.jpgis this normal and ok? And;

2. can I go to a 45 profile rear without any complications? And lastly...
3. What brand do you recommend for regular street driving with an occasional ego problem in the turns!? Lol

Those are dry rotted and need replaced. 45 shouldn’t be problems. I’m a bfg fan myself.

If you want something cheap that's halfway decent sumitomo aren't bad. My car has them all the way around. Of course that's what it came with. When I put the 10.5 on the back I'll switch to nitto

Cool, thx guys! I’ll do a search by tire size and see who offers what then compare and/or get back to you for feedback.
Cheers!

BFG G-Force COMP 2 A/S has matching front but rear in 275/40x17(not the 275 or 265/45x17 I was hoping for)

Actually, no. When I got the car 4 months ago, it came with 275/50x17’s in the rear. They always seemed a bit “bulbous” to me and today I learned why.... there were wheel spacers in the back as well which made the 275’s poke out a bit too disproportionately for my taste.
I removed the spacers and the fitment is improved IMO. The inboard edge of the tire just clears the exhaust pipe on each side and I suspect they may even touch from time to time while driving, but I will find a way to remedy that if it occurs.
So, long wat around answering your question... no, I’m not looking to fill out the wheel well. I’m actually looking to streamline the proportional look of the tires!

Federal 595 RS, Toyo Proxes, or Nitto NT01 are some options for you

here’s before and after pix with and without the wheel spacers. I tried to mirror the same angle in the after pic as the before pic. Didn’t quite nail it, but you get the idea...
Before, with wheel spacers...

And after, sans wheel spacers...203065BA-5B6D-408C-A01D-2A3E2110FD03.jpeg

Makes sense looks much better. I'd be curious on the wheels offset. I had 315s on my last sn95 and still was able to run quad shocks without rubbing.

I’m not sure; didn’t measure when wheels were off. But dang!...that’s a lot of tire, 315’s! What offset were your wheels to fit that meat under there?

I’m running a really wide 295. It’s actually the same width as some of my old 305’s. But my car is horrible to compare with as o have no rear facing exhaust or quads.

All personal opinion obviously but I liked the look with the spacers. Brings the wheel and tire out to the lip of the quarter which fills it out. Without the spacers they’re tucked in more like the factory setup which was way to narrow imo

275/40-17 is the correct size to maintain the stock tire diameter, and will fit both front and rear.

EDIT: What's the date code on those tires???

WAAAAAY back when I got my 17" black bullet wheels off of craigslist they came with 335 sumitomo's. They would rub on sharp turns but otherwise on regular daily driving they were fine.

Good question. I’ll read the sidewall and check, let you know...

in the for what its worth dept . I run 275 Drag NTO5R Nittos on the rear a with stock Exhaust and Quads. On stock wheels ( 94 Cobra) and the Non R Nittos on the front.
These are the Hands Down the BEST handling tires I have ever put on this car, And I have had it since new . So it.s had a bunch of tires so far.
BEWARE the rears will not work in the rain,,,but I get no traction still so I am moving up to 315's. for what thats worth LOL. I do like the NTO5's better than the 555's. but the 555 have more tread so may be better in street use. The problem I had with the 555's was they would not hook until middle of 3rd gear. just crazy to drive hard and enjoy.

I always “try” to get the same brand tire all the way around, even if different sizes f/r, so long as it’s a good brand.
Best I could match up so far is:
Front(245/45x17): Nitto Invo and
Rear(275/50x17): Nitto NT555

I have to laugh that the tires that are on the wheels are already old. You can still read "Hankook" on the center tread and they have been stored indoor and do not show any wear like the OP but they will need to be replaced sooner or later. I am not looking forward to 19" tires by any means.

If we're talking preference, I like Nittos for the street.

Their price point is realistic for the amount of expected performance. I was cutting 1.9 60fts at my local track with the 555R and about 18-20psi.

On the street the 555R works great. They can be repaired if they get a nail or something like that in them considering it's still a radial tire. They still have a decent tread pattern so it's not entirely unmanageable on the street like a slick or a bias ply tire.

Granted, a Mickey Thompson drag radial is really where its at if you have some power and want to dead hook anywhere. I'm an advocate for the Nittos though and run the Nitto 275/60/15 555R on one of my Mustangs.

Were you looking at the Nitto 555 Extreme ZR, Nitto 555 G2, or the 555R ?
