Dang, Ron that’s a lot of meat under those wheel wells!

I used to have 275-40-17s on 17x9 all around, but couldn’t get any traction. The 315’s look mean from behind also in my opinion.

Can’t get the full effect on that back rear corner side shot. How about a pic
down low from straight behind the Yellow Beast so I/we can get the full effect of those rear meats?

This is the only other one I have right now and the lighting isn’t good. My car is actually a couple of hours away right now getting a fuel system upgrade and a new dyno tune.

As mentioned, 245-45-17 and 275-40-17 at nearly identical in diameter.
I run General Gmax RS 245-45-17 on the front, 275-40-17 nitto 555r on the back on 17 x 8 new edge 5 spokes. The rims are very light weight.

I'm aware of what is recommended for width, but have been running this size in the rear for probably 12 years with no issues. Many others have done the same.
Back in the day, 275-60-15 were run on the 7" wide "phone dial" wheels.

That's great, but the OP may *not* be aware. Also, "back in the day," suspensions weren't capable of delivering the lateral G-loads that more modern ones do, and tire squirm was likely hidden by mushiness in the rest of the system.

EDIT: And, no, you likely have no problems running that tire/wheel combination, but there is probably some undesirable movement in the rear end under hard-cornering conditions that you're not aware of.

Rons - did you have any fender clearance issues with those?
I did have to bang in the inner fender well about 1/8” at the lower rear to get more clearance with my wheels and no spacers.

I like the Nittos myself. The rear tires are 315x35 (17x11 wheels) and the front tires are 275-40 (17x9.5 wheels). The rear measures 12" and the front measure 10.5". The wheels are the deep dish Torque Thrust IIs 505s. I don't recall the offsets. I did not have to modify the fenders, but I did have to use a 1/4" spacer (an 1/8" would've worked, but I could not find such at the time) on the front for the rim to clear the caliper; it just barely touched the calipers and I mean barely. I use the MM coilover adjustable shocks and struts to control the height of the vehicle. There's no rubbing anywhere.IMG_0060-4.JPG IMG_9804.JPG
