It will be done before the 12th. ;D
It's actually not costing as much as you might think. I'll probably spend less than 6 grand on the chassis/wiring/plumbing and about 20 on the motor.
For an 8 second drag car that could win me a bunch of money this year, that ain't bad.
I did the math on some of the NHRA Super Gas/Super Comp races . . . and with the contingency money . . . the car will get me over $6,000 for a first place finish . . . or about $2,000 for a runner up. If I can win 5 races next year, I'll be in the black on the car. ;D
As rediculously expensive as all that sounds, it's actually really cheap.
Our blue car will have about 60k tied up in it when it gets done. The days of "affordable" heads up racing are just about done.
Also, here's a pic of a 25.5 cage, but just a section of what is required for the certification. Trust me, we were looking into doing it for our car, and it is a MAJOR undertaking. Here's the main section of a 25.5 cage in a fox vert:
This just shows the cabin area, things that aren't seen are:
-through the floor subframes.
-footwell bracing and bars
-the series of bars that run under the car, creating a link between the lower front part of the cage.
Bars that are harder to see:
-rear down bars as well as a rear x brace, seperate, not together.
-the funny car cage is much more intricate than most kits you can buy, consisting of a rear, platform like frame work, as well as the hoop that ties into either a kidney bar or a floor bar.
