The ground clearance isn't any less than it was before. And . . . if I hit a "bump" on the dragstrip at 150 mph . . banging my header will be the least of my problems . . . lol.

It will be done before the 12th. ;D

It's actually not costing as much as you might think. I'll probably spend less than 6 grand on the chassis/wiring/plumbing and about 20 on the motor.

For an 8 second drag car that could win me a bunch of money this year, that ain't bad.

I did the math on some of the NHRA Super Gas/Super Comp races . . . and with the contingency money . . . the car will get me over $6,000 for a first place finish . . . or about $2,000 for a runner up. If I can win 5 races next year, I'll be in the black on the car. ;D

As rediculously expensive as all that sounds, it's actually really cheap.

Our blue car will have about 60k tied up in it when it gets done. The days of "affordable" heads up racing are just about done.

Also, here's a pic of a 25.5 cage, but just a section of what is required for the certification. Trust me, we were looking into doing it for our car, and it is a MAJOR undertaking. Here's the main section of a 25.5 cage in a fox vert:

cage.jpg

This just shows the cabin area, things that aren't seen are:

-through the floor subframes.

-footwell bracing and bars

-the series of bars that run under the car, creating a link between the lower front part of the cage.

Bars that are harder to see:

-rear down bars as well as a rear x brace, seperate, not together.

-the funny car cage is much more intricate than most kits you can buy, consisting of a rear, platform like frame work, as well as the hoop that ties into either a kidney bar or a floor bar.

Yeah . . I can't wait to run it. I kept the stock brakes and put a wheel spacer on for the imte being. It may stay that way for header clearance . . . lol.

I'm ordering the chute this week. It's looking like I'm going to need it sooner than later.

Yep. I'm getting off cheap for what I'm doing. I'm a Sppedtech kit and a back half away from the 7s. :bunny3:

Re: Build Thread - MOTOR PLATE PIC!!!!!!

just make sure you take it easy. In going around the country to races with John, i've seen a lot of guys hop into outlaw cars from 10 or even 9 second cars and just lose it. it's an enourmous step. even stepping up to our 8 second car from the previous mid 10's will be a challenge.

Looks like I'll have some time to get used to it. My engine builder just emailed me and said we shouldn't run it next weekend because he needs more time to dial it in. I have a three month break from points races after that, so I'll have plenty of test and tune time.

so much for gutting it and saving weight. :rollinglaugh: :rollinglaugh:

i bet if you hit a "bump" flipped it 5 times and it exploded into flames, your car would at least roll back to your pit. then you would fix the little uh ohs and go down the track for some more fun.
