Well, its time to buy the computer to properly link my T45 and my 2004 cobra engine together for proper speedo measurments :tard:

i have two choices:
The tried-and-true dallas speed cal
http://www.dallasmustang.com/mustang-parts/product/SPEED-CAL-1999-2004-TREMEC-CONVERSION-KIT/8990

or the new, name brand, ford racing unit.
http://www.americanmuscle.com/ford-speedo-tool-9410.html

any input would be great. Ive never used either product and so i dont know the benifits/drawbacks to either one...

let me know what you all think.... thanks,
Chris

Will that dallas mustang speed cal even work? The only ones I see them selling are for tremec or 99-up mustang tranny installs in a SN95, I dont see the plain old speed cal anywhere

are you using the stock 96-98 T45?

If you are why not just get the right speedo gear for your ring and pinion?

That speedcal is for the later model T45 from 99-early01 before the change to the tremec. Basically non mechanical speedometers T45s.

well, i was told (by JR) that the speedcal would work for my application.
I am using the OEM T-45 ('till it 'splodes) *BUT* i have 4.10s, which they dont make a speedo gear for.
on top of which, i am switching to 100% 2004 ECU/dash harness (including gauge cluster.)

SO... the speedo will be digital and the tranny will be mechanical. plus my 3rd member gears are too extreme for a mechanical gear. Plus i am going from OEM sized wheels (16"s of furry) to ... i dont know what size my new wheels are... lol.

JR told me the speed cal would work, but i was just wondering if the FRPP part was better? more options? easier install? more reliable? etc. etc. etc.

in that case why not just get a handheld programmer and correct for the gear and tire/wheels? you might as well get one anyways.

i dont know jack about 4v swaps but wont you need to go returnless fuel setup to run the new ecu, which in turn requires new tank/pump assembly, pump driver/module, and ALL the associated wiring all the way to the trunk???

i could be totally wrong though, i'm hardcore 2v....

you are absolutely correct.

BUT im taking the hard way.... (your way is the cheepest route. all those parts can be bought fairly easily from cobra owners doing a return style upgrade.)

im using the cobra tank and going aftermarket everything else. The 2003/2004 cobra (cobra only) tank has internal baffles to prevent the pumps from getting starved durring excessive turning and acceleration.

everything else i use will be aftermarket. hat, pumps, lines, rails, injectors, regulator. thus, i will also be going E-85 and a return style set up.

yuck, E-85!!!!!!

i'd personally go with 93 octane and meth injection, but thats mainly because the lack of E-85 availability..... and resale would be better i would think. i also dont think the extra fuel needs and lower MPG offset the extra power it makes. even in your stock 03-04 cobra motor you'll need something like 60 lb injectors...

i was leaning towards 63 lb. (if i remember correctly? id have to look at my shopping list)

and any gas above 91 octane here in denver is harder to get than e-85 :-( there are 7 stations in the denver metro area doing E-85 and.... 3? doing 93+. 4 if you include the race track.

I am doing E-85 because I am re-building the fuel system from the ground up. I might as well make it accept as many fuel products as possible, right? ;-) the cost to make it e-85 compatible is minimul, since im doing the entire system anyways. Plus i get to see back-to-back performance changes from 91 to e85.

i also looked into meth injection, but it really didnt light my fire. I'm the type of guy who likes his car to have 100% power 100% of the time.... I dont want to do 3 pulley swaps, fill my meth tank, actuvate my boost controler, change tunes, to go from the race track to the street.

I will have two tunes, a switch, and thats it...

you're right, E-85 sounds better for your situation, there is literally only 1 station within 50 miles from me. my car is my daily driver, and on E-85 i'd be filling up every 2-3 days, no way i'm driving 50 miles out my way to fill up that often.

why not run meth all the time? even driving spiritedly often a small tank will last a week. if you run a 70/30 mix you're looking at $1-2 per week for a gallon of walmart wiper fluid. fill the tank everytime you fill with gas and your good to go. no need for 2 tunes or anything like that, when the meth runs out (if) the IAT sensor see's the hotter air and retards timing.

just giving my reasoning for meth over E-85, not trying to persuade you. i'm just ready to see the "i started the install" thread.......

yea man, its not that good for you for sure.... i dont plan on running it alot unless a station opens up clsoer to my house/work.

as for Meth. its a little over my head at this point. I figure since im doing the fuel anyways, doing the E-85 wont be too big of a deal. and so far, after my research and studying, it isnt...

The cost for the E-85 fuel change is roughly the cost of upgrading my injectors.
the cost for the meth kit outweighs that.

Once i do a blower swap, i will probably do the meth kit. By that time i should be much more knowlalageable about automotives and will be able to make a better choice as to a proper application. At this point i would just be buying whichever kit was the most expensive, because tahts how i roll.... .. LOL!

as for a "install" thread. theres a build thread in the garage section... i updated it today with pictures of my ported Eaton :) i plan to begin install here in a week or two, once my new oil pan comes in, and my valve cover bolts. then the motor goes in. install clutch. tranny goes in. off to dah dyno :-D
