I dont understand.. ? whipple makes a quality product, but Ive always been partial to Kenne Bell.
KB is by no means a bad product, but from my experience with Modulars, KBs seem to make pretty fancy big numbers on the dyno, once, but fall short on seat of the pants and real world driving to the smaller numbered, cooler Whipples. The new "small" Gen2 2.3L whipple is extremely affordable and will make 650whp all day long on a bone stock 03-04 motor on 93 octane street tune. For the price you pay, do you need more than that?
i honestly dont have that much experience with top mount power adders... just watched someone install N2O, helped put in a procharger, and have done a number of turbos on import cars (89 supra, hondas, etc.)
i dont understand how a blower can add 400 HP (for example) for the first week, then drop later on. I have a feeling its due to kenne bell's supporting modifications such as the boost-a-pump and boost-a-spark. Those are supposedly amazing products, but i have never seen anything about them past the first dyno pull. Ive heard a local tuner (Finishline) suggest staying away from them.
He said that they are amazing for their purpose... to make a supercharger kit cheep. he said those products are used to bandage a wound... instead of geting a properly calibrated fuel pump for the set up, you are using a stock one on steriods 100% of the time. I read the kenne bell publications (yes, all of them) and thats exactly what the boost-a-pump is. It takes the stock pump and makes it run at a higher capacity at all times instead of getting a larger pump to run at normal capacity. it would be like having a fuel injector on at 99%. Yea, it works. yea, its cheeper than buying a new one... but is it a great idea?
I was going to get the blower and the minor addition modifications (8 rib belt, alternator bracket, etc.) but not the IMPORTANT stuff. lol. this build will be a ground-up kind of thing. I wont need a boost a pump because ill have my own pump. I wont need a boost a spark because it will be running MSD. I wont need a KB MAF because it will have SCT.
