I have a 1998 v6 mustang. My brother bought it back in 2000 and passed it down to me when i turned 16. Since i have had it I have had major plans for it. Mostly all engine work. I want to keep it looking fairly stock from the outside with just a hood and maybe a saleen wing. Engine wise i planned on dropping a 351w into it with plans down the line of hellion hellraiser twin turbos or a supercharger. I want it to keep all the regular badged and just make it a sleeper.

This past weekend i hit a deer with my car. If we claimed on insurance the car would have been a lose, although the damage is minimal. I just need a new drive fender, driver headlight, and hood. The bumper can be saved and all mounts are fine. A local garage that i have got work done at before told me he can fix it for less than $2000, including paint. The part i need advice on is hood size. I am looking at the 1995 Cobra R hood, but am spit between two sizes. One is a 2" over factory and the other is 3" over factory. I would like to know from people's experiences as well as personal experience what size would look better, and if 3" is too big. I know i said the plan was to keep it looking stock but personally, when i saw the 3" i liked it but am worried it may be too tall.

Is the 351 even a legal swap? I know to swap an engine legally it has to be newer than the engine being replaced.

Well, ive never had any hood other than stock. I always wanted some sort of cowl and i kinda had in my head a 3" the entire time. But now that it comes down to it i am scared that once i get 3" i wont be satisfied. My main worry is what it will look like from the driver seat. Is there really that much difference in a 3" compared to a 2"? Obviously 1" but you know what i mean. lol

I want it to be noticabe, but not over done. If that makes sense at all.

You'll notice it for sure, and I don't know where you're from but in Utah 4" isn't street legal. So 3" is close, 2" you'll still be able to see from the drivers seat.

Well right now im living in alabama, i am not sure of the laws here, but they are pretty lax with alot of stuff. The two hoods i am looking at like i said, are both 1995 Cobra R. One is 2" over stock the other is 3" over stock. I would love to see pictures from the drivers seat of both or one if you know of anyone who has them?

I am not that tall of a guy either, about 5'8. So visability is big for me because this will be a daily driver until i am out of med school. It is just a hard desision for me. Sorry for Drawing this out so much, but i just want to make sure i am making the right choice sight unseen for my car. 300-500 dollars for a hood right now is alot for me, so i want it to be perfect and i want to be happy with it.

Get out find a local mustang club or shop and start talking to the owners I'm sure that they will let you sit and check out the view from inside.
I'm in that same boat although I'm not ready for a hood choice yet, soon though.

saleen ran a supercharged 351 in the 99-04 years, so i think it could be legit... plus, your local inspection station guy probably wont know the difference... and if he does, hell just say cool, pass. lol

If you are looking to do a V8 swap, you would be better off selling and buying a gt.

+1,000,000.

your not saving any money of buying a cheap v6er and swapping it... there is soo much that you have to change...

I have had the car for 12 years, and money is no obsticle in doing this plan. I want somewhat of a sleeper, v6 looking car minus a few appearance things, and also people say i cant do this, so i want to be that crazy s.o.b that does something people are against.
