Sweet thanks for those

They are good, however we used the correct tools and made our own cam lock down tool. FYI your OCT cam lockdown tool will NOT work with some a.m cam profiles such as bullitt.

Wow makes it seem like a breeze lol....mechanically its not that hard; more of a mental hurdle you have to overcome.

aftermarket cam profile. The shaft between the lobes on Bullitt Race cams are a different diameter then the OE Cam stalks. We checked in several places from Bullitt to OE NPI cam and 4v cams. (both 2v and 4v tools)

With the help of a good frend we degreeded my cams at least 7-8 times between checking setting, rechecking and resetting. Once we got to where we wanted to be (106* centerline) then put it all together torqued Cam gear bolts to spec and then rechecked several times.

You need to measure the diameter of camshaft between lobes. If they are just regrinding the stock cams to a different profile then i would assume the otc tool would work (basically using the stock cam stalk)

okay, yeah my friends car is what is based my cams off of. He did his with the OTC tool. he made 290/310 to the wheels on his bone stock 03 saleen (n/a). He did no degree the cams, he did not change the springs, he could have made more power past 6k as the power band was still climbing (it's a blower cam). he made 470whp when he put the Procharger on. He's got HP 292 cams, I went with some with a little more of an aggressive idle.

well if he didnt degree them, then you wouldnt need the OTC tool.

but to change springs?

If the cams were already out you could just change the springs with the heads on the motor with a spring compressor. He prob used the OTC tool to hold the cam from bumping over, thats the only reason I could see him needing it.

free horsepower varies. im not referring to just lining up the marks of keyway or cam gears. i mean double checking the cam cards specs.

I texted him and asked, here's his response:

You use the tool to compress the springs so you can install the followers underneath the cam after you time the engine. It makes timing way easier with no tension on the cam

He used the OTC tool that looks like this

otc-7928_w.jpg

This goes between the cam shaft and the top of the valve spring. compresses the valve spring which allowes you to remove the follower, the 2 keepers and then valve spring and retainer follows. If you look at my how to at the top for Valve seal repalcement, this is all explained, and a demo of how it works.

This is the OTC tool of which i was talking about .
OTC Ford Cam lockdown tool.

Response from Jim Cushman:

That would be news to me, never have seen or heard that.
