Small update:

The frame for the fuel cell is complete, minus the top mounting holes. Did a moc-up with the fuel cell and it looks pretty cool. I have some work to do on the fuel cell before I can finish mounting it and plumbing the fuel system. I'll be running a swirl pot, and duel redundant pump setup to prevent fuel starvation even under the harshest conditions. I will also be machining a new flange and filler neck so I don't have to worry about the derpy D-ring cap that came with the tank.

The current plan (which is ever changing, thanks brain) is to finish the suspension, get the engine and trans swapped in, and drive the shit out of it. Once I've tested some of my parts and put a little more money in the bank, I'll be continuing with my under body aero and full cage.

P.S. if you know anyone interested in a bone stock 3.8 v6 and auto trans, give me a shout. Engine runs great, trans needs to be rebuilt.

Bonus picture of the brake setup on the car.

Another update: Sub-frame connectors are done, jacking bars are done, and the engine and trans has been pulled from the 98 cobra. Time to tear into it a bit and make sure everything looks good. Planning on doing the COP mod, rear coolant crossover mod, and most likely en egr delete to make space for future plans. Also looking to swap the coolant pipe to AN hose and fittings. Hoping to have my front suspension this December. Slow build is slow.

So, I've made some progress on it. Got the v6 out and cleaned up the engine bay. Wire brushed the inner fenders and strut towers and threw some black paint on. Got my front suspension, brakes, eibach sway bars, rear coil overs, wiring harness, and fuel system. Just trying to make time to work on it. Also cleaned up the engine, AN fittings for coolant all around, COP conversion, and underdrive pulleys. Found some metal when I took the pan off so I pulled the mains and found the source. I'll be pulling a rod cap soon to check the rod bearings. I'm really pushing to have the car on the road/track by May.

Custom sleeves I designed and machine to sue a spherical bearing instead of rubber bushings. This also allowed me to use MM coil-overs with Kenny Brown lower control arms.

Adding a grease fitting.

Fuel system and wiring harness. The small tank on the right is being used as a swirl pot.

Front suspension is in. Just finished putting new studs in my new front hubs, so those will be on this weekend. Cleaning up the steering rack and installing my MM bump steer kit as well and it'll finally be sitting on it's own feet again. I also finalized my design for a divorced shifter. Going to ditch the center console and moc-up something custom.

Bad news: I tore into the motor and found the one cylinder has deep gouging in it. On top of that, the crank was rubbing on one of the main caps, wearing a considerable amount of material off. Going to bring the block and crank to my engine guy and see what he says about them. The previous owner really ****ed this thing up.

Delicious suspension

Not sure what's up with the head gaskets that were used, but the coolant passages only had a tiny hole in each one. Coolant flow for this thing had to have been nil...

Sucks to hear about the engine, what do you have planned for it now?

I love that shifter idea though, make sure to document the install. You've got me very intrigued.

Great good news and shitty bad news.

Any chance you would make any more of those sleeve/spherical bearing combos? Was thinking of running those KB arms in the future.

Yeah, pretty bummed about the engine, but it's a good excuse to upgrade. Hopefully I can drop it off on Friday and get a better idea of what's going on. Current plan if the crank is usable, replace the rods and pistons. If the crank is shot, I'm going with a 5.0 stroker. Currently looking for C-heads so I can run either a m112 or whipple 2.9 depending on my budget at that point in time. I'll definitely document my install of the shifter. Planning on adding it to my catalog of parts if it works out well.

Thanks! I can't believe how good it ran when I bought the car. Literally sat there and idled the whole time I was bargaining with him. Revved great, no valve noise. Thought I had a winner haha

Well, the block is toast. Crackcase is already bored, cylinders are already bored, crank journals are .01" under, and all the mains are warn to shit.... I was advised by a trusted engine builder that it would be much cheaper to buy a new block. I took a chance with that Cobra, and it bit me in the ass. BUT, I got the rest of the front suspension in, so I got that going for me, which is nice.

The good thing is that you can find stock bore teksid blocks for around $300 all day long.

I'm actually having trouble finding one. I also have huge anxiety about buying a used block after taking it in the ass with this one. Going to ask for tons of pictures when I do find one haha. It ran really strong before I took it out. No valve noises, good throttle response. But after taking it apart I don't even know how it ran.

So despite saying I wasn't buying an engine this year I just got a lead on a 2012 GT500 short block in Michigan. I have a buddy going to look at it Thursday and if he gives it his blessing I'm pulling the trigger.
