After putting some additional thought into this, I'm probably going to be doing a complete AC system delete on here. I typically don't use air conditioning on a convertible anyway, and it would be one less parasite on the drive belt.

Also, does anybody have any tips or tricks to getting the coolant crossover out? It's really stuck and not budging at all. I don't want to break the damn thing.

Valve covers off.... talk about a PITA. It involved loosening the engine mounts and using a floor jack w/ wooden block to jack up each side of the motor to give enough clearance to get them off. I also had to disconnect the clutch cable and pull it through the firewall so it would be out of the way.

I also found out why some of the spark plug COP boots were covered in oil: 3 out of the 8 had the little rubber "donuts" that are supposed to be between the top of the spark plug hole and the valve cover knocked down inside. They were all tore up and beat to hell. It looks like they were down in there for some time.

Oh, I'll be building the engine on a stand too once I get the block black from the shop. However, I need to get the heads out of here ASAP so when the revised C heads come in that I ordered, I can get my damn $300 worth of core charges back immediately. :deeplist:

those wires probably were some kind of tach signal wire rig job. who the f knows. if you didnt get this car for such a steal id say walk away now and never look back lol. but, in reality, you have a running convertible new edge cobra. keep your head up man

+1 -- i agree. The MSD 2step also splices into the ignition system (obviously) and tuners will tie into the coils for the dyno runs.

i cant stop el oh eling at your new ride, Charles. I wouldnt el oh el if i thought you bought it to drive it. but i know you bought it to join the Jack Stand Club...

if those donuts fell out of the valve covers thats a sign they've been pulled. there's no way for those to fall out except for during install.

some inside info for ya - because I think it would look KILLER in your car.
We're releasing the 03-04 Cobra seats upholstery in Dark Charcoal and WHITE suede inserts - keep an eye on Latemodel Restoration & CJ Pony Parts site, as they'll be offering it in the next few weeks.
Put a black cobra on that white suede and it would look sick. just my .02

Good info and that makes sense, but I just found it odd that it would be spliced back into the harness a second time, up near the main connector on the firewall.

It feels good to be part of the club. :D

I honestly don't think the valve covers had been completely removed, because it's nearly (or probably is) impossible to remove the driver's side cover without taking the hydroboost unit off and/or loosening up the motor mounts and jacking up one side of the motor.... neither of which appeared to have been done prior. I think somebody though it would be a good idea to take the covers off, attempted to do so (knocking a few of the "donuts" off in the process) and then just ended up forgetting about it and tightening the bolts back down..... :deeplist:

Thanks for the input. I'll keep that in mind once I shift my focus to the interior. That would indeed look bad ass! :)

Are the stock heads c heads? If so you should be able to get more than $300 for them selling them instead of returning them for a core. I know a lot of the mark VIII guys want em.

The 99 and 01 cobras used the "tumble port" heads. My biggest fear of selling them to somebody else would be the shipping costs involved with those monsters, and the chance of them getting dropped and damaged and then having somebody pissed off. I'd almost have to sell them locally on c-list only, but then I really doubt I'd get much more than $300 because the market around here for engine parts like those is extremely low. It may be worth a shot though. Thanks for the suggestion, Chris.

I've seen em go from 5-600. I'd definitely list em on CL. How far from Cincy are you? I moderate a fairly large local mustang site and could spread the word.

I'm about 200-ish miles from Cincinnati. If you find somebody interested, I'd be willing to meet halfway, or travel the entire distance for a nominal fee to cover fuel. By the way, are they EVER going to finish that construction on i75!? It seems like every time I go down there, it's never done. :deeplist:

I got all of the timing cover bolts and studs broke loose. I was going to get the p/s pump and ac compressor off yet today as well, but I got pissed and called it an early night. I think the hardest part of this tear-down thus far was getting that p/s pump off. Not only were the 4 bolts tight as **** (and I ended up breaking a socket on one of them) but the pressure line fitting was also stuck tight and wouldn't move. Finally, I just said, "**** it" and busted out the bolt cutters. After that, less than 2 minutes elapsed and the p/s pump was laying on the garage floor... *sigh* Now, I'll need a new pressure line hose when I start putting it back together, but oh well.

I've come to find when you mess around with those ps pumps you have to replace at least one hose anyway. Usually that one on the bottom. Btw side note, you do NOT have to get that bottom 10mm back in. You should know what I'm talking about. It's the biggest pita about that pump.

Yeah, I agree. The pressure line comes in right in front of the bolt head. I'll probably end up getting a new p/s pump anyway when I go to put the car back together just as a preventative maintenance measurement. I'd rather not re-use this one.

im with Chris,

you can get more for those c heads.

Good to know. In that case, I'll try and unload them on craigslist before giving them back to Ford.

I got a call from the dealership a little bit ago. Some of my parts came in. On a side note, they couldn't get the 99/01 cobra tails and refunded my money back for those. :deeplist:
