Re: White95's build thread

Cool, I still have factory, even though I put on OEM Cobra lamps, its still kinda dim. better than my 88 jeep though, it needs the off road light rack on top for sure!!!

Re: White95's build thread

I'm going to install my Explorer intake tomorrow. I bought all the necessary gaskets and such today. Hopefully all goes well. SHould only take me 3 or four hours, depending on how many pictures I stop and take. Thursday I take her to TPS for a dyno tune, and I'm hoping to see about 225-235 rwhp and 260ish ft lbs

Re: White95's build thread

A side by side comparison really shows the size/length differences between the two uppers. Should give me 1 rwhp :D

So, naturally there's going to be extra stuff to do [that wasn't planned for] when you tear into a 5.0.. I had to tap the holes in the explobra intake's lower before I could do anything... Didn't count on that.

The tear down process went down without many hiccups. I only spilled a little water in the lifter valley, but I'll change the oil post haste..

casualty #1

This is what you call dedication. Since I didn't have any bolts, I went to Home Depot and bought threaded rod to make intake studs [Thanks be to Ryclef for the idea, :eek:ccasion14:]

IMG00118 by oldawgnewtrikz, on Flickr

Ok, for those who didn't know this, [I didn't] when installing and adaptor elbow, with NO included hardware, prepare to cuss.. ALOT. This &*$ damn %&*(in' piece of monkey #%&@ hole is threaded as opposed to the other three that are smooth, allowing the unthreaded part of the t-body studs to pass into them. no luck with the third. I plan to drill it out an use more threaded rod as a stud. I have to finish fabricating these parts and finish the job today!! Including making a few gaskets, adjusting vacuum line locations, torque the upper down, etc etc

Re: White95's build thread

yep!! i just got back from stupidzone. Had to buy some vacuum hose, oil a new FL1A and a drain pan. I still have to fab a stub for the elbow [which means i have to take the upper off, glad I haven't torqued it yet] get the vacuum lines squared away, swap over my EGR block-off plate, change the oil, start her up and check for fuel leaks and such. There's on inector that doesn't go into the hole as far as the other seven inectors. I hope it doesn't spray gas everywhere... i'll be upset... crosses fingers...

Re: White95's build thread

alright... moment of truth... and... no leaks!! however, she won't start.. checked all the ignition connections and she fired right up and i immediately shut it off because she's apparently not timed right.. so I'm gonna pull the dist and reset the number one piston to TDC [compression] and start over... I'd hate to come all this way successfully and then bend some valves!

Re: White95's build thread

ok after a lengthy conversation with a 5.0 guru followed by having to take the dist out, set #1 to TDC comp stroke, make sure the timing mark is set to zero and put it all back together TWICE, I got her running!!! :eek:ccasion14: and no leaks!!! Now, my celebration is half-hearted because the idle surgin is back but fugg it, she's getting tuned tomorrow...
