Say good bye to 1974’s front suspension. Borrowed the neighbors torch to cut the rivets out of the frame but it ran out of O2. Going to get back at it with a grinder tomorrow. The goal is to put the crown Vic suspension in place tomorrow and maybe drill some holes.

Finished stripping the frame, still have to grind down some welds and left over brackets but nothing bad. I set the front end back on and put a tire on it so I could position the wheel in the center of the arch on the fender. Got it where I wanted it and made some marks. Drilled the holes needed for the alignment dowels and I am happy to report that it installed easily. I need to head to a junk yard and pull the sleeves that go through the frame and the brackets that bolt the trailing arm to the frame. Get that all in and welded and the front will be done, fabrication wise.

Also tried a couple different wheels. An ultralite borrowed from @white95 that is from an s197, and a sn95 wheel. Both of them are pulled inside the fender a little too much, but we will see what happens.

Seeing those pictures, that appears like it would hit the frame. What wheel is that on the driver side? I wonder what one of your FR500’s would look like in comparison?

I turned it lock to lock and when I checked, the only interference would be the sway bar, depending on where I locate it. The other side has a starfish sn/new edge wheel on it, 17x8. I’m going to test fit an fr500 next, 17x9 with that offset might just be the key for fitment.

I tried on one of the fr500 wheels, they fit better than the s197 wheels, but I won’t know for sure until I get the engine and trans in it. I also went to the junk yard and cut the frame on a crown Vic to get the tubes out. Got those removed and drilled the holes in the truck frame. Went ahead and got it tacked in place. Gotta go borrow my neighbors big miller to finish it. I tried the tig welder but there’s too much oil soaked in to the frame, it keeps coming through the puddle.

I’ll agree they look pretty good on there. I don’t know if they will make there way on there permanently or not.

I made some more progress today. Got the rear end out and all the brackets cut off the frame. Pulled the bed and oddly enough only one bed bolt stripped out. The rest came out with no issue. Then hung the mustang independent rear end up to the frame to mark out where the frame needs to be cut. Nothing was really done with that accept looking and measuring today. Maybe tomorrow I’ll start hacking things up and see what we come up with.

I am enjoying this. I missed the fact that you were planning to go IRS on this. More of a street cruiser than a working truck, I suppose?

Yeah, my working truck is a 99 f250. You can see it in the background of one of the pictures. This is going to be a fun/fast truck. I’m planning a turbo 5.4l build for it.
