So what's the deal with those? I assume you just pulled a motor from the junkyard or something and slapped it in.

Yes but also no.

Yes, the engine came from a wrecked 2017 F150 with 22k miles on it.

No, we didn’t just slap it in. The cams were changed to Mustang spec, the oil pump gears were upgraded to billet, deleted the piston cooling jets, flipped the driver side secondary chain tensioner and then we dropped it in the car. The issue was most likely our exuberance leading to an oversight.

Once I stop this oil leak that I caused, I’ll get back to datalogging for the tuner. Guess we will see what happens next.

you make it sound like the game of "wack a gremlin" is ever going to go away for you and I? We would have to quit working on our cars and become useless to never work on it again for that to happen. While it sounds nice, I am never going back to being that dude...

It’s only over when they’re sold. As much as I hate when I breaks, I love the feeling being able to properly diagnose and repair an issue.

Today, my plans include stopping my self inflicted oil leak, glue the door mirrors glass back in and setting the preload in my steering rack. There is a big dead spot in the center and it needs to be addressed to build confidence in the car.

I can’t wait to get these together somewhere for a photo shoot. @Frank.JD.Perez would be so proud :D

I will have to read about that preload as I thought there was a spot in the middle of mine that just felt light like nothing was there

you put it in, but did ya bolt it down? I ask because I knew a guy in high school with a pretty cool old school firebird. He was always working on it and had the passenger seat out for some reason and put it back in but didn't bolt it down. For the next week he enjoyed(and so did anyone else that got to see it) giving someone a ride and when he would gas it all you would see was their head fly back out of sight, their arms flailing to grab something and then their feet would be in the windshield. Telling it now I am tempted to gab a gopro and remove my passenger seat bolts as it was hilarious.

Yes, bolts in the rear and nuts on the front studs. Which when measured left to right are roughly 10.75” (center to center) apart. This is actually her old driver seat and I’ll soon have the passenger as well, in the correct places. We upgraded her car with 2012 GT seats.

Fixed my oil leak and tightened up that steering slack! Helps when the stupid pinch bolt is in place  Tried the method depicted above and it feels really, really good now.

Took the car for another shakedown cruise and here are some observations:
  1. My exhaust drags leaving the east entrance of my neighborhood but not the west.
  2. I’m not sure if I like the smaller steering wheel.
  3. The car needs an alignment very badly.
  4. I need to revisit the activation parameters for the power steering because the RPMs dipped below the set point and left me without brake pressure. No bueno.
I have an appointment with my tuner tomorrow at noon and I’m hoping we can get this beast sorted a little better.

If you dont have a specific route you have to take or certain streets to avoid it's not a real race car lol. I have to avoid many roads in my town. The brace under the oil pan that verts had on my car bottoms out on even a smashed dead animal hahaha

LOL

Oh yes!! I’m certainly limited to certain roads and I already know them well having a lowered truck.
