which ever one, does not really matter to much. My intake clears my VC's and has good hood clearance except for one small spot

Re: Finally Started the Head Swap!

Update: Got the spacer all figured out, got it all together. Now when i went to start it all up i got nothing in the full range of adjustment that I thought was the right one on the distributor. Moved the dizzy one tooth counter clockwise and it started backfiring and not turning over. Moved it one tooth over from the original spot and it just should turn over. Would it be easier to just pull out the distributor, set the motor at tdc, put it back in, and re route the wires???

Re: Finally Started the Head Swap!

make sure your wires are right, take out the dizzy, get it at TDC and reinstall it. Make sure the Dizzy pointer is pointing at the #1 wire. ( 12 o clock position )

Re: Finally Started the Head Swap!

needs to be tdc on the compression stroke. The position of the dizzy itself doesn't really matter. The rotor needs
to be pointed at the #1 spark position to be close. Then you time from there. If you're "1 tooth off" just turn the dizzy body to align everything. I've had my #1 position pointing
anywhere from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock.

Re: Finally Started the Head Swap!

Update: Got it running *whoot* shittily though, had a misfire but fixed that by replacing a spark plug. New problems now though.

1. After it was timed to 14*, it sounded like a rocker was hitting the valve cover or something, weird part though is that it was only on the driver side. Could this actually be a lifter tick from a collapsed lifter?

2.Second issue: After it had been timed, the spout was still out and I rev'd it to maybe 1500, immediately after revving, I completely let off the gas and it just died. Tried starting it again with the spout in and it backfired.

I have no clue what's going on anymore =[ Do the roller rockers need to be adjusted down to a certain lash with these locking nuts? Or just down to a torque spec?

Re: Finally Started the Head Swap! ~UPDATE NEED HELP~

Edit: how much would the wrong sprak plugs be affecting this situation? Without thinking, I just swapped over the autolite 25s that I had in my stock e7s?

Would that change the apparent lifter tick/backfire? granted it isn't tuned but it should still be able to run.

Re: Finally Started the Head Swap! ~UPDATE NEED HELP~

i just did my head swap and had some of the same issues. i take it your heads have screw in studs so the the vavles would have to be adjusted. if they were not adjusted right it will cause a "valve tap". just got to pull the vavle covers off and re-adjust em.

as far as the plugs go... a bad plug can cause a miss or backfire but i still have the 25s in mine and its running great. not saying it wouldnt hurt to step up to a better plug but it should still run ok with the old plugs aslong as they are still good.

hm interesting, what procedure did you use for adjusting your rockers? I would have sworn that I did them all correct but I'm not perfect

Make sure you're not hearing an exhaust leak.
Adjusting rockers (stud mount only)----
When exhaust starts to open---adjust the intake
When intake starts to close---adjust the exhaust

Move the pushrod up and down/side to side and start screwing the poly lock. as soon as you cant move the pushrod---you're at zero lash
tighten 1/4 to 1/2 turn and lock it down with an allen wrench.

Re: Finally Started the Head Swap! ~UPDATE NEED HELP~

Update: Got the right spark plugs today, idled x324329085209273509 smoother literally. still a little hiccup when hitting the gas though, could be a vacuum leak, could be rockers needed adjustment so I went ahead and adjusted all of them to be safe. Since the drivers side head ports go exhaust intake and passenger side goes intake exhaust, I think I adjusted the drivers side out of order. Summit also send me the wrong bolts for the spacer so tomorrow is the day of destiny to see if it will finally run!

Well still fucking issues! So g*damn frustrating. Reaqdjusted all of the rocker arms, torqued everything down right, and timed to 10* and it still won't run right. It like pops/backfires while running and sounds like. A horrible knock or ping on the drivers side. Ive. Got a video uploading now. Please try to help, I just want this thing running!

You have a chip? If not, you need more than 10* of timing with the aluminum heads on. Is it backfiring through the intake? Usually a timing issue.
