Not only did i purchase a brand new block from Ford, i also bought a new engine stand, the high end one from harbor freight since the old scorpion stand was just screaming under the weight of the fully assembled long block. I was a bit surprised over the vast quantities of burs snd sharp edges over the block. So i used a deburring wand to knock the sharp edges and burs off of every edge, every coolant and oil passage, every cylinder bore and bearing face. Now everything is smooth. Ordered a bunch of measuring instruments as well. I must say.. this harbor freight engine stand is amazing. I would totally buy it again. I plan on painting the block, harmonic balancer, valve covers and elbow for the throttle body. I can either wait for the weather to warm and do it at home or i can take the block/stand to work and prep/spray it there. Which i am considering since its like 10° out lately.

Hey, I’m glad to see you got a new block. I was worried about the other one. I didn’t know Ford still sold those blocks new.
Yeah man! Apparently they made like 2000+ blocks the same as the newer 3v blocks. They made a HUGE quantity of these things over the years, f350s, f450s, f550s e350 vans. Motor homes, shuttle buses, etc. Countless Uhaul and penski trucks.

Also for the cost of engine machining in jersey, it wasnt a terrible option to just buy one new ready for bearings and assemly.

It makes complete sense. I knew they were used in a lot of applications, but never even considered a new block.

Interesting!

I love the no holds bar, who gives 2 chits what others think, ....i love it! Rock on!

It should fit minus the extra space open between the radiator and engine front. Its very tight between the shock towers and hydraboost/clutch cable. Buy a steering rag joint replacement and get it swapped out now. Once you set this beast in, you're not going to like the amount of space thats available to work on other things.

The exhaust is a pain. With my 5.4l i took a jegs H-pipe and extended the drop from the manifold mounts and added extra to the H pipe itself. Im sure any exhaust shop can handle this or a full exhaust build.

Be sure the heater core input line has an orfice in the hose directly off the engine or youll pop the hose. Over and over.

I have a few regrind stock camshaft ideas burning a hole in my mind here lately and v10 cams are a part of that project. Maybe ill figure out a nice pattern before youre finished. I already have a 5.4l pattern which is exactly the same lobe pattern as the v10.

With the 5.4l, 3:55 rear gears is as deep as i want to go. The off idle torque from these naturally aspirated engine is phenomenal. Same goes for 5th gear driving. Their is no reason to gear down to gain speed.

This is cool as hell. I’m an staunch advocate for Holley EFI.

Subscribing. I’m moving this to the projects section.

LOL YEAH, i dont mess around. The 4.6 turbo setup is like that, just feels like pipes are everywhere.. the rag joint replacement is a great idea, thanks. I didnt really think about that. The hydroboost is something i am aware of, but the clutch cable clearance will be questionable. Can you post a picture of your drivers valve cover/ clutch cable. The drivers side head of the v10 has a bigger valve cover due to the balance shaft so things will definitely be interesting.

I was thinking either the H pipe route or an X pipe route. Whichever i can source easier and cheaper. The Cams i have something up my sleeve for those.. and the gears i wil either run stock 3.27s or 3.55s. Or possibly whichever gear comes in a 94/95. Have some 3.55s laying around i can use.

The 5.4 mustt be a blast to cruise in, do you have a build thread on that?

Ohhh the holley, that is like breaking bank for me.. but to be honest this whole project has snowballed.. sooo eh.. at least it wont snowball with $2000 of rods and another $3500 on a blower.

Apparently the dominator will work with a v10. As well as the ms3pro.

So these are the measuring instruments i picked up. .0001" fowler manual micrometer. (i would normally choose mitutoyo, starrett or brown and sharpe.. but eh.. only going to be an occasional use item.) A shar tool .0001" dial bore gauge set some manual inner calipers, a connecting rod vice. And i also picked up an old box of large mics that i cleaned up as well. Pretty cool!

The balance shaft is not needed long as no sensors read it. The v10 were made long before a balance shaft was added. Grab some non balance shaft valve covers, because im telling you now, its a tight fit and any bigger cover that occupy space outwards will be a problem.

I will have to look i to that, perhaps i will check the NPI v10s since all PI v10s have them. Then it raises the question of whether they would even fit like a romeo vs windsor bit. If are talking about v10s as in the viper, lambo, or even the detroit diesel. This 6.8L has a 90° block like our 4.6/5.4s but unlike the "other guy setups" it has a special forged split pin crank to use its 72* even firing order.

1-6-5-10-2-7-3-8-4-9

Pretty cool, the balancing shaft is to help buffer any extra vibrations. They are incredibly smooth engines. But yeah, i can see that large valve cover being a pain in the ass.

There’s a few of us who fled over this way, I still try to recruit while I can. Might as well stay active somewhere else that actually appreciates others and the car culture.

Yeah man, i remember your threads over there. I am hesitant to even try to make a thread about this on FB, that place is full of ignorant buzzards. Always bla bla bla i did it cheaper or i am faster or lsswap. Its like the ultimate dick measuring contest.

Absolutely a good idea, again, thank you. Didnt even know this forum existed

So tonights activity, i drove up to the garage. Dropped off my 4.6 turbo header. The flange was warped and it leaked at the 02 bung as well so i machined it at work. i need a new MLS gasket for that so that will wait.. as you can see the old girl is resting there. So i decided to clean up a little and get rid of the old rotten boat anchor. Used a heavy duty ratchet strap and the cherry picker to lift it off the stand, then carefully deposit it into the back of my crosstrek. I also put one of the v10 cylinder heads into the backseat in a cardboard box. Tomorrow morning i will go and drop the block off by the scrap barrels at work. And try to find some shipping boxes for the cylinder heads. Things are stupid long so it may take a little while to find one. Also popped the last few valve springs and keepers out. Will clean up the retainers and keepers and get them boxed up for the machine shop.

Hot rodding at its purest!. That and i have no idea what sort of power curve this thing will produce, how it will drive. Etc. This is essentially one expensive experiment. That and down the road i think it would be interesting to put a p1sc on it with the puley size that i made 9 lbs on my 4.6 with comp 262s and see how many lbs. It would make. Just be cool to see the airflow usage. I mean on paper it would make like 3 or 4 lbs. i doubt the project will go that direction, but it would be fun to see and assess that kind of data.

Out with the old. Dropped the old block off at work to the waste pile. Managed to fish the rear main seal dowel and cylinder head dowels out. The timing cover, trans and tensioner arm dowels, forget about it. Those were lodged in there. I may have a new set of cylinder head dowels in my tool box though. Did some measuring and box hunting for the cylinder head, but it looks like i will need to make a wooden box for them. A fine lunch break Activity this week. As you can see my new valve springs are in. Brian Tooley racing .600" lift 130# springs. Exciting stuff!!!!

OHHHHHHHHH YEAAHHH! A package came!! Manley +1mm SS intake and exhaust valves. Triple grooved so i can reuse the factory keepers. So exciting!!!! Ordered them december 1st and they finally showed up. Insane how backed up the manufacturing world is.. even for something as simple as a valve. Today i need to make a large wooden box. This should be exciting. I also found a dowel kit on LMR for half the price of the mmr one. So in order to get free shipping i tossed a ford Throw out bearing on the order as well as an ARP crank bolt. Hopefully the bolt is the same length as the 4.6. See how the gamble works. In the next 2 weeks i need to bring the crank into work. Let it acclimate and measure the journals. I measured them and the block bores at home but the components were at some 30-40° F in the garage. Probably shrank a few tenths, so i will bring the crank and block to work and remeasure everything once the temperature has settled. Should be in the 70's at work.

Got into action. Cylinder heads are boxed off, they will be sent off to NEP Never Enuff Performance in texas with the manley valves, BTR valve springs, original factory retainers and keepers. Excited to get this stuff out the door and into the que for hand porting, valve guide cut, valve stem lapping, taper bronze valve guides, oem seals, surface decking and cleaning. Very excited. Not one, and i repear. Not a single mainstream CNC modular head porting shop was willing to copy and paste an additionap step into their program.. the cylinder head dowel hole locations are identical to the 4.6 modular 2v head. Just.. blows my mind. So hand porting it is.. would do ityself, but i really frankly dont have that much time available to hand port heads.

Matt at NEP right? I am thinking about having him fab up an intake manifold for me too.
